Chicago style 'za

In honor of our incoming President we are having pizza for Dinner next Tuesday...one Hawaiian and one Chicago, if we can find it. Anyone know of a pizza shop that sells decent or somewhat authentic Chicago style deep dish? East of Chicago would, I assume, but it looks like the one on Lorain and 150th is gone and the others are out of the area. I know some places do "deep dish" but they never strike me as really Chicago style...just more dough. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Which is good, but true Chicago deep dish is about 2 inches deep, and most of it is ingredients not crust.

I feel the same pain for that, that Ken Warren feels for New York style.

It just does not exist in these parts.

New York style? Go to Vincenza's downtown. It's next to Residence Inn on Prospect.

They have Chicago style as well but it's not the true version that you speak of.

Try Dewey's on Detroit and Riverside, two doors down from Borderline.

I have had their Hawaiian and love it. Bit strips of Canadian bacon with the pineapple. The sauce has a bit of a kick to it.

It may not qualify as Chicago style but it's good pie, man.

This thread could be the beginning of yet another fight about one of America's favorite foods. Even if you can agree on certain style definitions, New York, Chicago, California, or whatever, nobody will agree on what is best.

This all reminds me of the famous Chef Geoff pizza thread of 2005.

I still say Danny Boy's (Rocky River) has the best Chicago style ... and I've had Chicago-style at most of the big Chicago pizza places, like Lou Malnati's, the original Pizzeria Uno, and Giordano's. Danny Boy's makes an amazing Chicago pie, with a top layer that is essentially solid sausage. It takes several days to eat it, but every bite is worth it, and it reheats quite well.
