Matt back in June many of us went to a board meeting about another school closing and gave our names to be put on such committee. Do you know if that list is still going to be honored or do those parents have to re-submit their names? If they need re-submit is there a way to call them so that they know. I'd just hate for people that put their name on a list believing they would be included to not be. Thanks.

Phase 3 Steering Committee

Post by Edward Favre »

We just annouced the Phase 3 Steering Committee, so I would not count on a list from June. Interested citizens should sign up now. There is a deadline of January 14. We are looking for balance in the Committee City-wide so folks from all corners of town should apply. We expect to appoint the Committee at the Board meeting of January 26. The first Committee meeting is then being planed for January 27. Watch for further new releases.

Well I would hope that the people who signed that list and were told by the board that they would be included in a future committee are included. It would be unfortunate for them to be told one thing and not have that promise kept.

Danielle,

You are correct. The Administration should have all the names that have been submitted previously. And, the Administration should have already included those names on this list.

Ed just wants to make sure that those names are on this list. As do I.

Lakewood City School District Press Release wrote:Phase 3 Steering Committee Membership Deadline

The Lakewood Board of Education announced today that they will accept requests for consideration to be appointed to the Phase 3 Steering Committee until Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at 4:30 P.M. All requests are to be made through the Superintendent’s Office and may be made using any of the following methods:
  • • Email: david.estrop@lakewood.k12.oh.us
    • Office Phone: 216-529-4092
    • Mail/In Person: Dr. David C. Estrop, Superintendent, Lakewood City School District, 1470 Warren Road, Lakewood, Ohio 44107
If you are interested in being considered for appointment to the Committee, please submit your name, mailing address, phone number and email address.

If interested persons have children attending school, it would be helpful for the Board to know the school(s) their children attend as the Board tries to achieve a representative balance on the Committee.

I would still like to know if the parents and community members who were told at the June 5th board meeting that if they provided their information on the paper being passed around that they would be included in a future group are still going to be included. I am assuming that those citizens are going to trust that they have already signed up for this and that they don't have to provide their information again. I would contact all of them personally but there were a bunch of people there and I didn't know them all. I guess I will need to contact Dr. Estrop to see if this list even still exists.

I received and email from Dr. Estrop this morning and those names have been added to the steering committee list. He did suggest that if you gave your information at the meeting that you call and double check. I am hoping that a lot of people, and not just parents, are interested in this phase III steering committee. What happens to and in our schools affect the community as a whole. So be involved people, please.

Another question, is this committee made up of appointed members or all those interested going to be included? I am hoping that it is the latter.

My question was answered, anyone that is interested will be included. There will be an appointed executive committee but no one will be turned away from being involved in the committee.

On a side note I love that living in Lakewood I can ask a question and have it answered almost immediately, just another thing I love about my hometown.

Another FYI the school board will be appointing the executive committee not the Superintendent. That question was asked to me by another community member and I figured some others might have that same question.

Lakewood City School District Press Release wrote:There is Room for More

With over 130 people already signed up on January 14, 2009, the Lakewood Board of Education said there is still room for more on the Phase 3 Steering Committee that will plan the final phase of the school district's Facilities Master Plan. As the Board reviewed the list, all members were pleased with the number of people who had responded to the Board's invitation to be part of the Phase 3 planning process by being a member of the Steering Committee. President Edward Favre summarized the general feeling of the Board by saying, "We are very pleased with the interest shown by the people of Lakewood in Phase 3. However, I don't think any of us are really surprised given the overall interest and engagement of the people of Lakewood in their community."

While leaving the door open for more people to sign up, the Board also agreed to stand behind its commitment to make sure the Steering Committee was balanced in membership.

As the Board's discussion progressed, the sense of the Board was to continue to accept requests from interested people through January 27, 2009. This corresponds to the first meeting of the Phase 3 Steering Committee that will be held at 7:00 PM that evening in the Cafetorium at Harrison Elementary School, located at 2080 Quail Avenue in Lakewood. Because of limited parking at Harrison, car pooling is encouraged. Other meeting places within the school district with more parking were explored, but all were found to be in use by the community. Superintendent David Estrop commented that as the Board had hoped, the new schools were being heavily used by the people of Lakewood.

Any interested person who still wants to participate should notify the Superintendent's Office as follows:
  • E-mail - david.estrop@lakewood.k12.oh.us
    Phone - 216-529-4092
    U.S. Mail - 1470 Warren Road, Lakewood, Ohio 44107
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact Board President Edward Favre at 216-529-4092.

Matt

Isn't 130 person steering committee a bit large?
