New Playground - Madison and Hilliard

Post by sharon kinsella »

Today I drove by the little park that is at the corner of Hilliard and Madison. It looks like a bunch of new playground equipment is going in and the site is being reconfigured to eliminate some of the frontage and the tennis courts (which I never seen anyone use).

This is a wonderful improvement and much better land management.

To whoever put this together - good job.

I agree. I hope there's a vision for Cove Park in the near future. The equipment there is beyond disrepair - it's actually dangerous, and there's a ton of open space to do something creative with.

Friends of Madison Park, with the City did the work.

I didn't realize that Friends of Madison Park were doing other parks, the city I figured which is great.

I'm thrilled at the facelift and tickled for the kids and their families.

Actually, The Friends of Madison Park had nothing to do with the improvements to Wagar Park. I believe this is another part of Mayor Fitzgerald's plan to improve the park system in Lakewood, along with improved tennis courts at Lakewood Park and the beautiful new play equipment at Madison Park. While the city sought the input of FOMP (Friends of Madison Park) on the design of the play equipment, benches, etc. at Madison and we helped plan the opening ribbon-cutting, the improvements were entirely funded by the City.

The members of FOMP are so thankful to the Mayor for his leadership on this and the other City staff involved. We will be undertaking a fundraising campaign to make other improvements to Madison (trails, landscaping, entry elements, etc) to bring the rest of the park to the high standards that the Mayor and Parks Dept. set with the playground. I think they've also done an excellent job at Wagar in selecting unique, well-made, and fun equipment that will give families yet another recreation option in Lakewood.

Great work Mayor, Dave Seman of Parks, and the city Public Works Department!
