Thank You Vets!
Today is Veteran's Day.
My Dad, like so many other Mom's and Dad's and children, did service for our country. My father is gone now, but I remember that he was proud of serving. I also remember that he paid a high emotional price for his service.
I'd like to thank all the women and men that have served our country.
Thank you so much.

We owe Veterans more than we could ever put into words, actions or concrete.
To all, and their families.
Thank you.

One of the great things about vets is their continuing and ongoing willingness to serve, and to therefore influence others by their example.
Yesterday, my dad directed his Garfield March composition for their veterans' program at Garfield school, where we volunteer as retired teachers. He and I played music last night for a Native American Spirit feast. Today, we'll be at Lakewood Park event with even more music.
In WWII, Dad played in an Army band. We believe that of his band, only he and one other vet still are alive. The other survivor still plays music all the time for others too.
Service for others. It's what vets do, and have done, so well.
Thanks for your service, veterans. :D
Thanks, Dad. :D

What passing-bells for these who die as cattle?
Only the monstrous anger of the guns.
Only the stuttering rifles' rapid rattle
Can patter out their hasty orisons.
No mockeries now for them; no prayers nor bells;
Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs, –
The shrill, demented choirs of wailing shells;
And bugles calling for them from sad shires.
What candles may be held to speed them all?
Not in the hands of boys but in their eyes
Shall shine the holy glimmers of goodbyes.
The pallor of girls' brows shall be their pall;
Their flowers the tenderness of patient minds,
And each slow dusk a drawing-down of blinds.
