I told him to endorse. I would be fine with that. But to pretend he isn't is a joke.

OK one more time from the top. I'll write it slowly.

The sign in the window belongs to my wife. That would be a fact. That is her desk and her window. So why you are attacking my wife's first amendment right is beyond me. Believe me, if they were mine they would fill every window. I am in the sign business. Deb prefers the copier.

As I wrote, I have political signs in my yard, and have done that for the last two election cycles.

So what am I supposed to confess too that I haven't? So you are getting all jumpy over nothing, per usual.

When candidates encourage people to yell "kill him" at rallys, and do not speak out or call the police, that would be encouragement, and I believe that is a crime. Now of course I am sure you think it is a first amendment right, like the one you are trying to steal from my wife. But in America, threatening to kill a person running for president is as bad as pulling the trigger.

"Businessman of the year"? What the hell does that have to do with anything. Wound a little tight there tiger? For the record, it was given by me to my wife at the ceremony, and formally to her by Lakewood City Council. So are you dragging my wife into this attack again? What has she done to you?

Who cares about the sign. I think that everyone has the right to display their political feelings in their business or home. What the heck is wrong with that??? Or would you all prefer censorship??

Don't we more to worry about than if or where Jim has a sign and what it says??????????????????????????????

Think about it!!

oh, so the sign says VOTE and not HOPE?

Wait, what's the big issue here? Do we not want people to vote?

Jim,

I think what we're seeing here is a spillover of the Republican anger that is boiling at their rallies. It's a national trend.

You give these people a free forum to express themselves, and just look what you get. They want to own YOU personally. You can never give them enough. It seems they've been on the dole for too long, because their expectations are way too high.

Perhaps if these Republicans had to work and pay for this opportunity, as you have, they would treat you with a little more respect. You and Deb, as charitable risk-takers in this ownership society, should have known better than to enter the marketplace with a product that benefits so many at no expense to them.

Your product, AND your personal life, are their entitlements?

Sheesh.

Wow - You all miss the point that the impression the outsiders get is that the paper endorsed obama when that never occured. O Wait, there aren't that many outsiders that pay attention, so it probably doesnt matter.

It isn't that big of a deal. It isn't my integrity being questioned.

The reason that I brought up businessman of the year is because I think it is CRAZY that you said that McCain is for the assisination of Obama, I guess I would have just expected more. Here I go, raising the bar when I should be lowering it.

Get over it.

Peace.

It is always hard to get over anything when my wife is so viciously attacked. Of course you have said in the past that people's Constitutional Rights mean nothing as long as Bush was president, or Rs are in office. Win at all costs Ryan.

The facts remain that there has been a going number of lunatics at McCain and Palin rallies that have yelled "kill him" when Obama is mentioned. They have not once tried to stop this talk, infact they encourage it. And people like you thrive on it. Again win at all costs. When the candidate, refuse to say anything and actually fans the flame of hate, it makes them complicit. When the campaign makes the signs of hate to hand out at rallies I believe it borders on conspiracy to commit murder?

This gets us back to my largest question with "Win at all cost Ryan," your critical thought process. I realize that Republicans like the G. Gordon Liddy mode of keeping your hand in the flame no matter how much it hurts you.

Let's see how would you put it, "Your good friend George Bush is a dismal failure, his policies have gotten us to where we are now." Of course you will blame others because it is hard for you to understand your friend and hero is the worst president at all time. It is hard for you to understand America has killed a quarter million innocent civilians, in a country that has never attacked the USA. That your president with the help of people like you, have killed more Americans, and destroyed the lives of more Americans than 9/11 or all of the terrorist attacks against America put together.

You see the problem is these guys say things, and people without critical thought believe them, and repeat it again and again. So when McCain and more to the point Palin (Republican's best chance in 2012!) fan the flames of violence and hate, some nut job will act, "for America."

What troubles me most is how my wife runs her business, has very little to do with any of this. But that is that lack of critical thought process rearing it's ugly head again. Still trying to figure out how she hurt you?

Personal attacks followed by a McCain endorsement. That's a common pattern.

I have to ask, since my company is 501c3 and my address is my home, does that mean I can't put a sign out in my front yard? It would be a personal sign, not a business sign, but would that be a conflict? NOT that I have a sign in my yard, my dogs would destroy it chasing the squirrels and the chipmunks.

Ok folks, re-read my original post. No attacks, nothing really that negative, just pointing out that the perception is an endorsement.

Jim you brought your wife in it not me - how dare you make those accusations. You and I have had conversations about GWB and yet you continue to spread lies, I guess you are the one willing to win at all costs.

Way to build the "brand", you are at least staying consistent with that.

If you disagree with the core group you better not post on this site or you will be viewed as an attacker and a fool, this is becoming a bigger joke each day.

Holy Crap People!!!!

What is wrong with this picture. We're all neighbors here. Where's that stinkin' banjo when you need it.

Jim, you know (or at least, should know by now) that I have nothing but the utmost respect for you. And if I didn't I certainly wouldn't spend the time I do trying to contribute.

I'm not a doctor, and I certainly don't play one on TV, but my professional recommendation is for all of us to DRINK HEAVILY!!!!!

Judging from the hostility that seems to erupt from even the most simple conversation, we may need a party just to get us to the party.

perhaps I should go back to my original premise, by starting every post with the disclaimer....

A claim of not being negative, followed by round of personal attacks, followed by a McCain endorsement.

See what I mean about that common pattern?

OK everyone,

This, from your friendly local Political Scientist:

Politics is about the attainment and application of power at the governmental level.

You have this continuum, see?

Left Right
- - - - - - - - - -center- - - - - - - - - -

Extreme left tends toward centralized committee control of property and human development, but also strives to protect all people socially, medically, and economically. Individual initiative can suffer. Governmental plans dictate just about everything.

Extreme right tends toward private ownership of virtually every aspect of life, including education, arts, and many services that government has traditionally assumed over the years. Individual achievement is indeed celebrated, but often at the cost of others, as scarce resources are scarfed up by the swiftest in the race. Small government is the ideal, but all too often, to insure these ideals, they too often end up with governmental plans that dictate just about everything too.

The 20th century, to a great extent, has reflected a struggle between the extremes of these positions, often at the the cost of millions of lives.

Both groups, at their extremes, would similarly exclude other ideas from the discussion table.

Disagree with the Far Left? Then, it was off to the camps with you.

Disagree with the Far Right? Then, there were still other camps waiting for you too.

America has a tradition of pragmatism, and that's why, until fairly recently, neither mainstream Democrats or Rebublicans reflected the extremes of the political model. The last thirty years have brought some of the extreme people in both parties to the surface, however, and therein lies the difficulties that you see at all levels of American political process today.

Years ago, there were many who tried to keep the extremes away from the American discussion. Civility ruled; at least on the surface. Below the surface was quite another matter. One of my parents came from the South, and the other, the North. About 150 years ago, our country had this type of oil-and-water discussion, and that turned friend against friend, and neighbor against neighbor, and at least some of the rancor of that conflict continues to this day (except in the case of my mother and father, of course!)

Even now historians disagree as to whether that conflict should be called "The Civil War" or "The War Between the States".

Coming as a rather personal result of the unity of that historic division, :D I suppose that I've always tried to work for conflict resolution; not only with others, but within my own heart as well.

In my life, I have tried to never place agendas, or political thought, above people. People come first in my book. Who among us agrees with all of our family members? All of our political party's positions? All of our co-religionists, or lack therof?

In 1945, two atomic bombs ended the academic discussions of doctrinaire politics, religion, or doctrinaire anything else, for that matter.

We either all have to learn to get along, or we all may die.

We either all listen to the banjo, and sing kumbayah, or we all may die.

Now you know why I play the banjo...

Now, let's sing.

Was there some sort of cosmic zap that happened at 10:30 last night that has clearly effected the tin foil hats, people?

My husband told me about it to me previously, I looked up (at a no turn on red stop light) and thought it looked odd. I still think it looks odd. But at least now I know it is intentional and I can tell my husband he was right and I was wrong. It is our 14th Anniversary today and he will love that.

I should have known there was some huge secret back story.
