We Lost Another Good One - Frank Murtaugh

Post by dl meckes »

Our friend - and Lakewood's friend, Frank Murtaugh has passed away.

Frank was involved in many aspects of Lakewood life and was one of the driving forces behind the Veterans Memorial in Lakewood - and other veteran's issues and concerns. Frank was a Marine and a Vietnam vet. He had been the Master of Ceremonies at this year's Memorial Day program.

Active in politics, Frank recently has been a member of the Zoning Commission. He was a CERT member - one of the first group trained in 2005. Frank had run for city council and was a frequent speaker before that body. He was a precinct committee person for ward 2(a) for the Democratic party.

Frank had a quiet demeanor and a questioning nature, although some of his questioning skills were honed by his experience and training as a lawyer. He spoke up - wherever he was - to try and bring clarity and thought to any situation. Frank also had a great sense of humor, which added to any interaction with him.

Frank Murtaugh will be sorely missed.

A big loss for the community.

I have served on the Board of Zoning Appeals with Frank.
Frank always gave fair, reasoned treatment to every case that came before us. He was always thoroughly prepared.

He cared deeply about our community, and showed it through his many voluntary efforts. His work on behalf of veterans was especially commendable.

Frank will be missed by everyone involved in politics on both sides of the isle.

He was very involved and fought for what he believed in.

I will also miss seeing him waiting outside of drug mart for them to open in the morning.

My condolences to Frank's family and friends.

Frank Murtaugh's death

Post by John Viglianco »

I had the highest regard for Frank's political and legal opinions concerning Lakewood. To me, he was the most knowledgeable person in the city.

I wish I would have told him how much I respected him.

Frank Murtaugh was one of those rarities, nowadays. He was a decent gentleman.

I'm really saddened by Frank's passing. Frank was very generous to Lakewood, to local veterans organizations, and to alot of people in quiet ways.
