Questions

Post by Christina McCallum »

Generally I think I'm pretty well-informed about life in Lakewood, but I have a few questions. Maybe I've missed things about:

A. Doughboys. When and Why did they close?

B. Cereal Central. Is it open?

C. Madison Park. The playground is torn down. What's the plan?

Thanks for any information anyone has!

I am not sure about Doughboys, but my kids really want to know what is going on.

As for Madison Park they are building a huge brand new playground that may be open now or it will soon open.

And I have no clue about Cereal Central although the the last few times I have walked by it seems like they are working on it and I think there was a sign in the window that they will be opening soon.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Dough Boys is gone about two weeks now. There are homemade signs on the windows saying that coming soon is something called Red Rooster. Unless somebody has the inside scoop we'll have to wait and see.

We noticed yesterday that Orchard Grove park is getting some new appauratus as well ....

One problem with Doughboys is that they started selling stale stuff. The last time I went there, the woman smoking her cigarette in front of the shop turned out to be the purveyor of dough who didn't stop to wash her hands. I turned around and walked out. Good riddance.

Cleats closed its doors in less than a year.

However, it was the same owners as Crazy Ritas, so it did last more than a year in total.

Two restaurants have shown interest but Cleats controls the lease, so it sits empty.

FWIW

I did a google search for Red Rooster and the first thing that popped up is "Red Rooster was the first Swingers Club/Party opened in Las Vegas"...yikes, I hope that's not what's coming to Lakewood!

Another result was the Red Rooster Wine Bar & Cafe.

Oh well, it could be anything, I guess.

I know exactly what you mean, Dee. That building's nowhere NEAR big enough for a swinger's club! Maybe they should look at the old Giant Eagle on Bunts!

Red Rooster is also the nickname for Tuong Ot Sriracha sauce, found at most Asian restaurants...

I just went past Madison Park while on a walk. The new playground area is fenced in. There is a huge tower with twisty slides - a good visual compliment to the big water slide at the pool. There are several other big pieces, but it was dark and I couldn't make out much. The project looks about three-fifths of the way done. Most of it is built, it seemed, but there were still a few big pieces of playground stuff on the ground that haven't been installed yet. Maybe they are waiting for parts to arrive? Also, the new equipment is all sitting in a big trench, so that will have to be filled in when it is all put together. I wonder if they can finish the project before the snow falls?

Another question: What happened to the Applebees on the east end?

Nothing, either good nor bad. The city just gave it's approval in July. I guess these things can take time.
