In The Doghouse

Post by Diane Helbig »

Have you ever gone into a business where EVERYONE was thrilled you were there? Where they were all smiling - in a genuine way? Where they were truly grateful for your business? AND where the product was good?

Well, wait no more. Go to the Doghouse in Marc's Plaza and get a dog - any kind of dog. From dressed up to naked the hot dogs, brats, and sausage are tasty; the sweet potato fries are to die for; and the people, well, they are great!

Nothin' like a good dog joint - and what a bonus that it's being run by really decent, pleasant people.

Diane,

Thanks for posting this, I went there today for lunch and had a great slaw dog with fries. It was excellent!

Everyone needs to try this place.

just went in today, and my one HUGE complaint was that I wasn't hungrier. My wife finally has a place to get authentic Chicago Style Dogs. For those not familiar, it looks more like a salad on a bun than a typical hot dog. I got a chili cheese dog with extra onions, and my son wolfed down a corn dog. With drinks, we walked out, full, for less money than I would spend by myself in Chipotle next door.

Love the fact that they are right around the corner from us (on Elmwood). We'll probably be back often, especially as the weather turns cooler.

I went to college in and near Chicago. I could give a flip about Chicago style pizza. Spent most of nine years yearning for something with a thin crust. But I haven't had a Chicago dog in maybe ten years, they are the BEST, and I'll be Doghousin' it ASAP.

Celery salt, pickle spear, yum....

These folks are originally from Chicago and have another shop on Coventry. They've been open two weeks.

My dog had slaw, celery salt and crumbled Cheddar cheese. It was accompanied by a designer root beer made with sugar cane sugar and no corn syrup.

It was a good dog and a good root beer.

It is amazing how much better the sugan cane pops taste than the high fructose corn syrup pops... I love my Jone's Soda... strawberry lime

I tried this place earlier this week and chatted with the owner Sylvester as well. He was a great guy! I tried a Cincinnati Dog. It wasn't the same as a Skyline or Gold Star but it was still a good dog. I am trying it again with my co-workers tomorrow, too. This time I will go for the classic Chicago style. Good joint. I hope they make it there. It is a nice, unique little place and a good match with other local food hangouts like the Souper Market and Dave's Cosmic Subs. That plaza is making for a good fast food lunch destination.

And everyone was right! It was great. Both employees were super friendly and were right when they told us we wouldn't be disappointed. I had a delicious brat and some great cheese fries and my friend has the sweet potato fries and a Polish Boy. Everything was great, filling, and inexpensive!
