Don't forget other areas!

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

While the Observation Deck gets a lot of action it is just one of many, many spaces on the Lakewood Observer Website.

The newest spot is Lakewood Cares - http://lakewoodcares.com/ A new area being opened for every church and non-profit in the city of Lakewood. No charge to any non-profit, school group or church, includes discussion boards, websites and more.

The Lakewood Shopping Experience - http://lakewoodexperience.com FREE Directory listings for any Lakewood Business in the largest online business directory. Corporations, Restaurants, Bars, Clothing Stores, and more. Up to one page for a Lakewood Business to get out their information. By name, or category!

Lakewood Photo Galleries - http://lakewoodobserver.com/photoblogs, Where Lakewoodites share their photos of Lakewood or other images with the world.

I am wondering if it would help or even be possible to have the most recently posted FORUMS at the top vs. just the same three areas that seem to get the most traffic? This way, people would know that there have been responses in areas like Theater or Lakewood Cares or whatever. Just a thought. There are a ton of cool areas that don't get much play at all and I agree it is a shame as they have neat potential.

DL correct me if I am wrong. Phil I do not believe that is possible with this release of the software. Perhaps in the future. We will have this ability. There is something to be said about re-ordering the current layout of things.

this may not be the most recent release of phpBB - I know it has an active development community but I haven't installed it on any of the sites I help with because I'm generally really not a forums-user, preferring email. I know from other sites I've been on that there's often a "show posts since last visit" feature that might be useful to draw attention to new posts in less-frequented areas. Just a suggestion.

Also, there exists an extension for phpBB to link it to email in a way that (allegedly) full participation is possible via email instead of having to come to the forums directly - that would be a big plus for folks like me who are touch typists and get quickly annoyed with all the mouse-action needed to navigate a forum.

edit: oh, yeah forgot the question I had - the non-profit/church area, is it necessary that they be physically located in Lakewood? I'm a member of West Shore UU just across the freeway on Hilliard and from my understanding more than half our members live in Lakewood. Would it be OK for me or other members of the congregation to post events and such on the non-profit/church section? We have regular musical performances and art shows and such that may be of interest even to folks who are happy with their own church.
