Nice work as always Rhonda.

I really liked the photos of your section teaching kids how to graffitti.

A big thanks for a nice day to Lois Moss, MainStreet and Mary Ann Crampton, Lakewood Is Art, Lakewood Hospital, Cox Communications, and all of the volunteers. Thanks for joining with the Lakewood Observer on this fun day.

Ruthie Koenigsmark, you are truly something else!

Those who stayed home.

Shame on you.

Rhonda!! These pics really capture the spirit of the day...wonderful!! ...thank you so very much. Who would think we could see karate, tumbling, improv, belly dancing, square dancing, fencing, jazzercize, on the streets in the heart of Lakewood? It was an extraordinary day made possible by extraordinary people and organizations.

The sights: bicycles everywhere, bubbles, chalk art, Flower Clown, skateboards, the Humvee pull and smiles.
The sounds: exquisite live performances all along the street, square dance calling, aerobic tunes, drums and laughter.
The community: all ages, all backgrounds, celebrating active living and the chance to play in the street.

Thanks to Lois Moss and Walk+Roll Cleveland who brought the idea to Main Street Lakewood after experiencing Light Up Lakewood. And to Lakewood Hospital for its generous lead sponsorship and great programming. Thanks too, to the Rec Department, the Beck Center, and the YMCA, all of whom stepped up immediately to help with programming.

The list grows quickly from there....we blew Lois away with our ability to pull together in such a coordinated and cooperative fashion. The City of Lakewood - the Observer team - the Chamber of Commerce - Bike Lakewood - Lakewood Is Art - Lakewood Soccer Association - the Masonic Temple. And the businesses jumped in, too: Phoenix Coffee - Crossfit Training - Cyrano's - Korean Karate - Silhouette Dance Studio - .

It was all so very good. Feedback and suggestions are most welcome while it is all fresh in our minds and we are making notes for next year.

Many thanks to all who joined in the fun and made it yet another great day in Lakewood!

Ruthie/Mary Anne

Thanks for including skateboarding in the inaugural Lakewood Walk+Roll!

We helped a lot of skaters - young and old - and handed out our self-published book of Skateboarding Tips (written for parents so they can observe and support their kids' interest and development in skateboarding).

However - we sure would like to be in on the planning next year so we can get a proper presence up on Detroit. We could have done all our lessons and demonstrations up there with the rest of the city. We had a big turnout as it was and having the skaters, parents and friends up on Detroit would have benefited the other groups and help foster some cross exposure of the various physical activities that our citizens engage in.

I have a few photos and I know that the video crew stopped by twice to collect some footage so we'll get our shots posted or sent over.

I have a feeling that this will become the premiere Lakewood event in only a a few years. It is the perfect vehicle to showcase the COMPLETE Lakewood Brand so I give a huge hug to everyone who got this started!!

What a cool event! We had a great time and really impressed, I think, our guests for the weekend with what a cool place Lakewood is to live.

Does anyone know the name of the young woman who was performing Bossa Nova outside Phoenix in the early evening? She was incredible!

That was Luca Mundaca. She lives around here, but not--last I heard-in Lakewood. And I agree: She's fabulous.

Vince.....THANK YOU...for the kind words and for participating! Absolutely ...you are on Detroit next year. So appreciate your understanding of 1st year efforts and taking things in stride.

I am meeting with Lois later this week and hope to pick a date. Count yourself "in" and again, thank you for such terrific engagement of the community....this is exactly what we hoped for!

Wonderful event, yet one more of those things that make me so glad we decided to buy our first (and hopefully last) home here in Lakewood.

I was also taking pictures, primarily of the belly dancers (one of them is an acquaintance-becoming-friend of mine). Pictures are on my own online photo gallery and I'm too lazy to repost the 52 of them here in a forum (plus, that would likely be rather obnoxious) but you can view them at http://www.digitaldreamsphotography.com ... dwalkroll/ (reposting them is fine but I think I have hotlinking turned off so you'll have to download them and re-upload them, please list Ahmie Yeung/DigitalDreamsPhotography.com as the photographer if you repost).

Thanks :) we've actually been here 3 years (renting now owning our 1st home), but I didn't realize the Observer had forums (I'd never been to this website, just read the paper). I'm a mom of two little boys (4 and 1 yrs old) and I taken an insane amount of pictures, so I'm happy to have a place to share them where others can enjoy them.

I am also a professional photographer (I am the owner of DigitalDreamsPhotography.com, which I started 7 years ago), primarily focused on portraiture (I have also done product, real estate, and wedding/special occasion photography, primarily before my sons were born). My current favorite portraiture is pregnancy and baby related, since that is my life-stage and I love capturing universal life elements in each of us. My goal is to hold a mirror up to my subjects so they can see the best of themselves, while showing something that any other observer can find something to relate to.

If anyone has a public Lakewood event that they'd like me to photograph, especially if it's family-friendly so my husband and children can enjoy it too, send me a PM and I'll do my best to be there and photograph it. I'm committed to seeing Lakewood shown off as the best place to live in Ohio, if not the country.
