Is Council working to limit campaign contributions?

Post by Donald Farris »

Hi,
I remember during the last election there was quite a shock that someone from Cleveland Hts. gave over $100,000 to former Mayor George's campaign. Politicians, I thought, were outraged that an outsider would attempt to exert such influence on our local Mayoral election.

Is/Did our City Council change the law so this can not happen again?

There should be no law of any kind or description which would in any way impede on any individual or group expressing opinions or trying to influence an election or public opinion.

Hi,
With all due respect, Mr. Austin, I think people being able to exert such influence could be open to improper give-n-get.

campaign finance & Hotels on the Rocky River

Post by pat ballasch »

How quick do we know where campaign funding comes from?
It's a good idea to know who's got a dog in the fight. Did that 100K come from someone doing business in the city?
I think the only thing that keeps some people on the straight & narrow is business being conducted with the public watching.
Speaking of in public view, why did the hotel project next to The Cliffs
(Cliff Slide) go away so quietly? Where were the discussions taking place?
Was there some , "Not in my back yard" push here?? Who was against it and why? Lakewood alive where's the story?
I think Lakewood could use a hotel or more bed & breakfasts. Would the project have been developed without TAX ABATEMENT? THAT'S THE KIND OF PROJECTS I WANT TO SEE IN LAKEWOOD. Someone to help pay for services. YES. Was someone thinking that property was plase 2 for the Cliffs? I don't see a giant project sign or on site marketing & sales. (The new grass doesn't really say much about the project) Someone fill the residents in on the progress.
