National City Bank one of the 150?
Yesterday's news was filled with the banking crisis and how a possible 150 or more banks will fail this year and next. Is National City one of them?
Yesterday they suspended trading shares of National City stock as it fell so fast. Today I would imagine the fall will continue.
While this can be laid on the feet of the employees and lenders at NCB, the outcome cannot be that good.
One thing we were joking about a couple months ago, was the Canadian company that wanted to bail them out, and buy them. The question was asked, "Could Canada end up owning both sides of the Great Lakes?
Interesting.
Funny how screwed up a country can get in 8 years.

National City made a statemet that nothing unusual was happeing and the bank was fiscally sound:

Of course only time will tell if that's true.

Funny. It sure seems like things got a whole lot worse once Dems took over congress. They promised "change" and they sure brought it. I think Obama's "change" will do even more damage.Jim O'Bryan wrote:Funny how screwed up a country can get in 8 years.
I'm glad we live near Canada, maybe we can swim there if Obama wins and gas hits $12 a gallon and the stock market crashes and capital gains taxes double so the economy shuts down.
So much to look forward to with "change".

You can not expect the Dems, that have no b_ _ls to fix all of the evil done by the Republicans overnight.
8 years of lies and mismanagement might take more than a couple months to fix.

So Ryan, do you honestly believe the Dems created the entire mortgage crisis and energy crisis in the year and a half they've had control of Congress?Ryan Salo wrote:Funny. For someone who wanted to participate in government at one point, please tell me you're not that naive.

I know I am not being served by the Dems as you call them, and I know the Republicans have undermind virtually eveyrthing that was right in this country.
We have at best a 1.1 party system.
I would love to hear where you think any of the past eight years have been good for America, what alone give you any thought for some kind of bragging rights. You are correct, even Obama offers no bright light in the tunnel. However the alternative would spell the end of the USA as we knew it eight years ago.
Bryan
I think Ryan is underlining that the "Dems" have not been able to clean up the mess in the 1.2 years they have had "control." Not that Congressman Kucinich hasn't tried with hearings on the subject.

Maybe these problems started before Bush? Hmmm, maybe...
Is it Bushes fault the Indians went on a losing streak and that my grass keeps growing because of all this rain?
I need to sue him to pay for an illegal alien to come mow my lawn and then collect government welfare when he is unemployed.
Unreal.
Also - It is good to know it is the Presidents job to not only keep us physically safe but also protect us from ourselves, and keep the stock market going up.
That mentality seems familiar, but I can't remember what successful countries have tried that...
Last comment - I went door to door recently and I met someone who seems to sum up my view of one of the problems with society.
I asked the man if he was more liberal or conservative when it comes to fiscal responsibility of the government. He said that it depends, "I want the government to spend liberally with other peoples money but be conservative with mine"
He flat out told me he thinks the middle class should not be taxed and the wealthy should be hit hard.
He didn't care how high as long as everything was free for him.
The scary part is that crazy politicians have realized that most Americans think like that so they promise that while destroying our economy at the same time.
I think i will get a bumper sticker that says - "Like Free Stuff? Vote Obama"
Want to rebuild America? Keep the tax cuts on the wealthy, encourage small business owners, lower capital gains, open up the lending industry again (the tougher they make it for us to give out loans the worse it will get) and get rid of most unions
, and focus on building strong families (divorce and single parenthood hurts everyone and the economy)
Just my thoughts on the issue...

Maybe they did, but you just completely destroyed your credibility since you just earlier stated it was all the brand new Congress' fault. So which is it? Did the brand new Congress miraculously just make it all happen or was it before Bush?Ryan Salo wrote:Maybe these problems started before Bush? Hmmm, maybe...
Hasn't Bush been doing your "rebuilding" for 8 years now? It sounds exactly like the policies he's implemented...oh and add the rights-destroying Patriot Act in there...and where has that got us?Want to rebuild America? To be honest, 100 years from now, I wouldn't be surprised if text books had Bush as one of the worst presidents in history maybe next to Andrew Johnson.

Where have I asked anyone for anything FREE? Where have I asked for any special entitlement programs?
IF, and that is a huge if, any of this started before GWB, then he has done nothing but make it worse, not better. Do you really believe that GWB has helped the stock market climb? I would need to ask how?
The man came in on the coat tails of the finest Republican president in my lifetime Bill Clinton, and has gutted this country of everything and anything that makes America good.
There is absolutely no proof that he has made this country safer. Most common sense and professionals would say we are less safe. The point is so ridiculous, why argue it.
I would say he has exposed the under belly of our weakness to carry on any military operation. However it is just as Nixon did in Vietnam, just enough to keep the blood and money flowing out of our pockets into the hands of the military industrial complex.
The other night on TV a Bush adviser could come up with not one example of the country being safer or a terrorist act be thwarted by this administration.
Now I am not the foolish bleeding heart liberal that will say, "We could have used that money for better things." Simply because it was not our money, it was borrowed money. I would say that we could have paid off the National Debt, and that could have helped us in a number of ways, just like paying off personal debt does for the citizen.
Bryan
While GWB will go down in history as the worst, I would have to put Wilson before Johnson. Although Wilson realized on his deathbed he had sold the country out to a handful of individuals.

curious the Dems could be blamed for our current situation...putting aside 8 years of Republican controlled legislature and executive branch, Dems currently hold a small majority in Congress. On top of that, Bush has the authority to veto any legislation coming from Congress.
So, please name one piece of Legislation that was passed (and either signed by Bush or with Bush's veto overridden with large Republican support) that might have caused any of our current situation.
I'm hoping you can come up with something, because I'd hate to think that you simply shoot off your mouth, errr, keyboard, without having thoughtful commentary. That's not how you operate, is it?
Finally, could a trillion dollar war - whether it's a just war or not - have an effect on the economy? Assuming that every dollar spent on our military is exactly where it should be going, it's hard to point to a larger shift in money over the past 5 years than that.
****
About NCC...Every publicly owned company is afloat with shareholder support. If the support isn't there, stock is sold, and the remaining shares are worthless. The problem is that there are plenty of good companies that don't have the confidence of Wall Street - the boards are FULL of companies trading below their fair value (including Nat City) IMHO.
On top of that, banks have additional outside influence in the form of depositors. There again, a serious erosion of support from depositors may cause them to shift their funds elsewhere. Mind you, neither of these scenarios may have anything to do with the fundamentals of the company. They may merely be 'perceptions' of the company.
Again, I believe NCC is worth more than their $3.50 or whatever they ended today at, but the question is: will people look past the perceptions and stay with the bank, or will they protect themselves and pull out?
I'm hoping they all sit and wait out the storm.

Hmm, mortgage crisis and subprime loans.
Republican majority in the Senate.
But it's the Dems fault. It just never stops.
And it's time for all the blah, blah, blah to stop.
Our city is dealing with a huge deficit. Our country is in full crisis mood.
Maybe Lakewood can heal but we don't exist in a vacuum.
So what do we do besides point fingers?
