Lakewood String Players

Post by Trish Hendy »

Have any of you been wondering why so many of our Lakewood String players 3rd grade thru 8th grade have been missing from the parks and pools this week? It's because 120 or so are hanging out at LHS participating in 2 Recreation Department String camps.
The morning camp is taught by Lakewood Project directors and members and focuses on alternative string styles. The campers work on large group numbers in addition to composing their own works.
The afternoon camp focuses on classical string playing with guest conductors Dr Joanne Erwin of Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Trista Emmons "2008 Young String Teacher of the Year for the State of Ohio". The students have been divided into 2 orchestras and also work in small groups on chamber music.
This Friday evening at 7pm in the Lakewood Civic Auditorium both camps will come together and present a concert that is free and open to the public. If you have not planned on an event to attend this Friday this is one you should check out.

I encourage everyone to go, we enjoyed it so much last year, especially the students compositions.

And I would like to thank all the member of the Lakewood Project who are giving their time to teach the students and the adults that work so tirelessly to make music in our schools so wonderful. This is my son's second year attending the camp and he absolutely loves.

What an outstanding night! The kids were incredible to begin with, but then to have The Lakewood Project end the night! Wow. Our daughter gained so much from this and had the time of her life. Thanks to all who made this happen.
