House fire on Northland

Post by Phil Florian »

Nothing gets the heart racing more than driving home after grocery shopping and finding one's street blocked off by a police car and down near one's home billowing smoke and flashing lights.

There was a fire last night a few doors down from me and I wanted to thank Lakewood's finest for a job well done. This was a house where the couple that lived there were out for the evening. I talked with the guy who initially called 911 and we both agreed that this was the house where the owners had two dogs. The FD and PD were open to talking with us when we let them know there were two dogs in there and out they later came with them, assuring us they were safe. It was nice to know that this family wouldn't have to deal with the loss of a beloved pet in addition to the other damage in the home. The fact that they took time to listen was nice. My daughter later assured me that when the FD came to her school one time they noted they will even save fish if they can help it. Neat stuff.

Anyway, good job to all involved, including concerned and fast acting neighbors. I hate to see something like this happen but it is reassuring to know that when it does there are good people there in a short time to help out.

Please contact me for information regarding home window stickers that warn the FD about pets inside.

CCLAS (lakewood animal shelter) is selling them for a nominal fee or free for a donation of a prize for our Hair o'the Dog fundraiser and silent auction on May 22nd at Sullivan's, 5:30 PM.

They will also be available at our bake sale during the Lakewood Arts Festival.
