As I haven't been on in a couple of days...to my surprise i can not believe my eyes with what I am reading on this thread.

How does a family’s loss connect with freedom of speech?
How does a family’s loss have anything to do with the decks policy?
How does a family’s loss have to do with people bickering…
How does a family’s loss make people insult each other?

I came on here tonight to share my experience.

I took my five children to the church today. So they could see exactly what our city has been in the media for the last couple of days. To explain to them the loss of a child in our community even though we didn’t personally know them. To teach them to support one and other regardless of who they are. They each took a stuffed animal down there and placed it on the wall. It was amazing to see the sincere look in their eyes. To see that they truly understood what had happened. They stood and read the cards, poems, and kind word that were left from other people. I read them also. The kind things that were said brought tears to my eyes.
I came on here tonight to post my experience only to read the thread…to bring tears to my eyes again, but not for the sadness of this tragic loss but the sadness of what the deck has come to. A family is grieving deeply and all you guys can do is argue.

Maybe everyone should take a stroll down the wall and read some of the things that were said. Maybe then they would come back and read their posts and realize how selfish they are being by saying the things that they are.

I couldn't bring myself to drive by until yesterday. I just couldn't do it. My seventeen year old was outside with my five and six year old the same day a couple streets away. It is not possible to not think, "what if he came up my street"? Not possible to think about everything we worry about, stress about, put importance on, and how if that happened on our street, what would really be important? How would life go on if that happened in any of our families? To me it wouldn't. It couldn't.

So yea, to read about freedom of speech and judgment of pictures, even long after the poster apologized and it was removed, and to read the children shouldn't be playing in their front yards, even supervised by a teenager, which many are today, says a lot about what is going on with the deck, instead of the heart. How very, very sad. And truly thank you for your post. I never thought about bringing my children there, but I will now. We cannot let that child die in vain, even if something changes in our own household with appreciating our children more, enjoying our time with them more.
