ODOT – The “Dâ€￾ Stands For Dumb

Post by Bill Call »

It looks like ODOT is hell bent on spending nearly $2 billion dollars to build a new innerbelt bridge and repair the old bridge.

If you thought for that kind of money you would get a thing of beauty that would enhance the skyline of Cleveland or that you would get new transportation infrastructure that would improve the business climate in Cleveland you would be wrong.

See how it could be done:

Keep in mind that the above bridge is much larger than the proposed interbelt bridge and was built for less than half what ODOT proposes to spend.

Bill,

Interesting there are many things wrong with that article. As I am at work I will just take two of them.

So the Bridge is in “poorâ€￾ condition but is is perfectly safe to drive on. So what is the condition below poor where the bridge is not safe to drive on. I think it is time for “Code Oh. Crapâ€￾

Then they have this grand plan that is going to cost billions of dollars and many years to complete. Euclid Corridor comes to mind. Never thought it could take that long to build a road did ya.

Then we have the mayor.

“Jackson has urged ODOT to keep pushing ahead on all the projects, calling them critical for economic development and urban revitalization.â€￾

I do not buy it. We have a bridge now and no economic development. I will say it once again. The only thing that is going to bail Cleveland out in the long run will be Education.!!!!!!!!

I will agree however about the West Shoreway project. This has the potential to bring real change. We here in Lakewood need to start planning on how to parley (not sure if the is the correct word) that in to opening up Lakewood’s lake front. Witch I believe is going to be central to Lakewood’s growth.

That 2 billion is more than just a bridge. Its the redesign of the entire inner belt highway including the eventual removal of Dead Mans curve.

Is the innerbelt bridge the one with two other bridges next to it?

sometimes I'll walk down Euclid after work. It looks nearly the same width as before. Maybe they could have just redrawn the lanes on it. that might have been faster.
