Youngstown has a state university and a lot of nudie bars. they are advertised on the Sports page of the Plain Dealer. Lakewood will never compete with that.

Lakewood has a nice park at the lake. but there are all these priggish laws against going in the water or carrying a canoe down to the water. why even have a lake?

ryan - you make an excellent point regarding the Lake.

It's one of the area's greatest assets, but is incredibly underutilized... throughout Cuy Cty, from east to west , the lakefront is virtually inaccessible for the average citizen (save a few parks, marinas (private) and some private access).

And now, as today's front page of the PD reports, global poachers are eying it for THEIR taking! Great.

Why can't we access the Lake in Lakewood? Like those that can't access Sin in Cincinnati. We got a bit closer with the new ramp leading down to the walkway. It is almost like you can just...reach...out...and get a finger wet. Almost.

I thought when the nuns sold us the property for a dollar (or however the story goes) that we would add Lakewood beach front to the areas of waters likely to be too high in bacteria to swim safely. But no, we don't even get that.

OK as we have really drifted, regionalizing everything from the library to the schools to Clifton Beach.

I agree on the "lake" syndrome. We rarely have friends over from out of Lakewood, but when they ask, in the summer "lets go for a swim in your lake" we have to head to Edgewater or points West.

When we want to go IN the lake, we auto-pilot OUT of Lakewood! Let's think about that simple statement. We live in LAKEwood, but we cannot use the Lake? Hmmmmm. Maybe we need to change the name to "Lake-View-Wood or get something changed so we can take a dip in one of the great lakes we can only look at from "here".

Who said anything about regionalizing anything? Is it our Lakefront, can't we access it? Maybe Youngstown can save us by building a beach off Lakewood Park. That would be cool.

Otherwise, I don't get the gist of the thread. You have an outcome in mind and are waiting for us to get to it. What is it? Is Youngstown going to take a bullet for us? Jump in front of a bus and push Lakewood out of the way just in time? Or are they going to give the model for rebuilding a dwindling city that we have to ape?

Can't the question be, after Lakewood saves itself, can it save Akron and Youngstown?

My error. I wrote "Cty" to abbreviate "County", when I should have used the preferred abbreviation, which is "Co".

To return to the thread, what exactly do you mean "Can Youngstown Save Lakewood?" - that Lakewood follow Y-towns path to reducing infrastructure? Or somehow arrange for the kind people of YT to invest in Lakewood?

Can Cleveland save Lakewood? Or does Cleveland need to save itself first and we can not wait around.

In order for a bedroom community like Lakewood to flourish there must be a job source within a reasonable distance.

If we do not start seeing job creation in Cleveland and Lakewood, there will be massive migration to points South.
