On a related note, the library has posted online Kenneth Warren's complete presentation of "How Green Does Your Garden Grow: Assessing Community Capacity and Aligning Local Instigations", which is to be presented today at The Urban Farming Public Lecture Series at Carnegie Mellon University.
The presentation discusses how psychographic tools such as Spiral Dynamics and Prizm can provide assessment insight concerning the community's capacity and interest in developing local agricultural, cultural and economic circuits of exchange. Featured will be a practical report from Lakewood, Ohio on grassroots alignment efforts of artists, citizen journalists, farmers, local food system activists and public librarians to enact the community and place-making vision of LEAF - the Lakewood Earth and Food Community.
The download is available from here: http://www.lkwdpl.org/focus/KennethWarr ... pacity.pdf

The Midwest definitely is on the cutting-edge of urban agriculture/sustainability.
Lakewood is certainly lucky to have LEAF, but take a look at this initiative called "Growing Power", based in Milwaukee and Chicago:
http://www.growingpower.org/ . Lots of good ideas for LEAF to look into...
Those interested in this sort of thing might also want to visit "Human Dimensions of Urban Forestry & Urban Greening": http://www.cfr.washington.edu/research.envmind/. Some interesting reading....

Great links, John.
In my search for CSAs in Iowa (where I'm relocating to), I came across this site which connects people to CSAs in their area:

My fiancee goes to medical school out there, and she will have 2 years left after we get married. We'd love to come back to Lakewood, though!
