Never work for Starbucks.john crino wrote:The building plans for this has five guys burgers and starbucks listed on them, anyone know if starbucks is happening here? Thanks
They might get some of Caribou's business. 98% of the Phoenix crowd will not make the walk. Like your customer's at bela duby I can't picture them anywhere by choice!
FWIW

Wouldn't surprise me ... Starbucks no longer looks to develop prime properties ... they merely look to see where another successful coffeehouse is, and they just drop a location right there. Though it's not always a death-knell for the local shop .. sometimes, oddly enough, it actually increases business for the other shop, especially if that other shop is a place to hang out in, such as Phoenix. Lately, the new Starbucks shops around town are very small, with few if any places to sit. They want you in, buying a $5 coffee drink, and getting out. They don't want you hanging around all day nursing that drink.

I was really hoping that Starbucks was going to move in. The one on Clifton is ALWAYS packed and it is the worst set up to get in and out. I don't think it would take away business from Caribou and Phoenix. I think it might have given THEM more business. When an area is 'starbucked' it has been shown that it actually helps independent coffee houses nearby, due to overflow and people who begin to appreciate specialty coffee through the chain and then branch out from there.
They are not moving in, however. From someone in the know, I heard that they really wanted a drive through at this location since the RR and Cleve locations dont have them. It was not possible on this building.
Also, I do believe that the Five Guys Owners now own this building and are the one developing it, if I am not mistaken. I am hoping they can fill the storefronts and make that little strip more attractive and vibrant, regardless of the tenants.

I totally agree with you. Can people AT LEAST get out of their car and walk 50 feet to get that 1000 calorie frappuchino? You know, work it off a little?Jim DeVito wrote:I am personally against drive troughs. The do little more than promote laziness and less human interaction. And more driving!
But, from what I understand, that is the reason why they are no longer looking at that building.

Just one little comment about drive-throughs. As a mother of two small children (and one very soon to be born!), I have come to appreciate drive-throughs like never before. Bank drive-throughs come to mind specifically (the idea of not having to unstrap some potentially impatient children from their car seats and grab a diaper bag before going into a very quiet bank that might have a very long line). But I have to admit, there is also something absolutely wonderful about the idea of being able to grab a quick coffee from a drive-through. There's not a lot of lingering anywhere with little ones (except maybe the library or a playground), so there's not a lot of opportunity to stop in a coffee shop and chat pleasantly with the other patrons. I leave that for Vince! Every now and then (I'm talking once every 6 months or so) it's just an extra special treat to be able to have a coffee - normally a quick transaction when you're in my shoes - without having to leave the car.
All that having been said, I'm glad to hear a Starbucks will not be going in.
