Snow Ban declared

matt, wish I lived on your street ... mine was plowed yesterday, but you'd never guess it by looking at it. It's pretty much one-way, too ... because of all the cars parked on the street. An ambulance came down today and had a heckuva time getting through because of the parked cars, or the giant piles of snow from where the parked cars that finally moved were located. Madison was semi-plowed, as was Detroit. When I was out running errands today, I found Rocky River and Westlake had all plowed their streets, including side streets. Lakewood didn't. If it wasn't for the sun out today melting a lot of the snow, it would have been worse.

I just heard on NPR this morning that Lakewood police are asking everyone to get their cars off the street today or they'll be towed.

Just wanted to pass it along.

It should be noted...

I was listening to the police scanner throughout the blizzard. Every effort was made to find and contact the owner of any car on the street. The usual tow them quickly like during rush hour was not used.

A plate would be called in, if the owner could be called, they called, if not the officer would go to the door and knock before ticketing.

The police did a fantastic job with this effort. They not only made every effort to contact car owners, they helped dig people out.

A lot of those folks probably had tickets, but kudos to LPD for doing everything they could to aid Lakewood citizens affected by the storm.

And while it's their job to help us, let's not forget to thank LPD and LFD for everything they did during both the ice storm and the big snow dump. Not only were they everywhere in Lakewood, they were also called for mutual aid. They went above and beyond the call of duty - which is actually typical!

Also, the streets and forestry departments were crazy busy, doing their best to keep up with everything.

Our city employees really do work hard for us!

I agree. I think Lakewood did a great job. The city employees certainly worked very hard. But Lakewood citizens were out helping each other too. Hopefully this is the last big storm of the year.

EMERGENCY SNOW PARKING BAN LIFTED SNOWED-IN/PLOWED IN CARS WILL BE
TICKETED FOR 24-HOUR VIOLATION

Lakewood Mayor Edward FitzGerald, serving as the Cityâ€™s Public Safety
Director, has announced that the Emergency Snow Parking Ban will be
lifted at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 10, 2008. Residents may go back to
parking on all city streets where signs do not prohibit parking.

Residents are reminded that vehicles may not be parked on any street in
the City for more than 24 hours without being used in a usual and
ordinary manner. The Lakewood Police Department will ticket
snowed-in/plowed-in autos on all city streets. Tickets and tow notice
will be placed on each vehicle. If the cars are still parked on the
street, without being moved, an attempt will be made to notify the
registered owner. After the notification attempt is made, the auto will
be towed off the street.

Off-Street Parking is available at the Lakewood Municipal Parking Lots,
located throughout the city.

I was told by a co-worker who received a ticket that is how much he owed the city.

I think Lakewood Hardware needs to market shovels to renters!

Long ago, I nearly got towed because there was a similar situation and I had to ask someone to bring me a shovel I could borrow!

I still think the police never hit Rockway ... at no time was the street empty of the folks who park on the street. Most of them did dig their cars out, but then just moved them forward a bit, leaving a big pile of snow behind them.

And there hasn't been a plow down the street since sunday, so today it's a lunar landscape of ice and slush, extremely slippery and bumpy. The big piles on the right side of the street where the parked cars were buried are still there, though they've melted a bit, but they're still keeping the street one lane, and it's difficult to pull over to let someone coming up the street pass; I did that already today and almost got completely stuck in the thick slush. I know the snow storm's over, but I hope they keep plowing so that every street is cleared.

I know some of the longtime folks here think the city's been doing a fine job, and perhaps they have, but it just seems like our street and some of the surrounding streets haven't gotten much attention, so I'm a tad disgruntled.

Its not just your street. Our "little" Arthur hasn't had a plow down it either. and we now have no cars parked on it during the day because of the no parking signs during the week...just evenings and weekends you may park on the street. We have many piles of snow that makes it very hard to drive down. When I pull out of my drive I have to have the angle just right or else I'm hitting a lovely snow bank from the plow. Not easy at all.
