Lakewood does have plows, right? Am I missing something? Where have they been lately? Did they take a snow day?

Guys--- In their defense--- I was out at 4:30 this morning and everything was fine and passable. There was only about an inch on the streets and driving,running, walking was perfectly safe.
Then, this all hit at once at about 6:30 so it was impossible to react quickly. Right now the plows are going back and getting the side streets.

Even if they started at 6:30, wouldn't they have hit Detroit or Clifton by 8:45am, when I finally got my car dug out and headed for work? I was shocked that they hadn't. Where have they been focusing on? The Mayor's street?

521.06 and it's up to the people in the homes/businesses by their respective sidewalks.. Businesses have til 9 AM, other sidewalks have a different timer:

Except as provided in subsection (b) hereof, snow and ice shall be removed from all other sidewalks within the City on the same day as the cessation of any fall of snow, sleet or freezing rail or not later than 8:00 p.m. after the cessation of such fall, whichever period is longer.

Penalty could be a minor misdemeanor. I have no data on how much it's enforced.

By the looks of the sidewalks, I highly doubt it's enforced. Maybe the city should start ticketing offenders - it would be a good way to help with the deficit!

nahh, this happens every time it snows ... comments sprinkled through the forums about the need to shovel sidewalks. My neighbor and I shovel ours ... but then we look like oddballs, because a lot of other people on our street don't bother.

Though I think a number of them are renters ... I don't know if they're required to shovel or if their landlords have to come over and shovel ... and if a landlord owns a number of properties, I'm thinking they probably won't be hitting them all, just to shovel the sidewalk or driveay.

I would think that the property owner (landlord) would be responsible for making sure the sidewalks are cleared.

I wonder if someone from the city can comment on how the plows work in Lakewood, what kind of conditions cause problems for them, how they prioritize roads, etc.

I wonder how this storm differed from others. I kind of shoveled my driveway this morning. I took off a layer of snow 3-4 inches deep but didn't touch the 2-3 inchces of solid ice underneath. Do plows have a harder time getting underneath ice on roadways or do they depend on the salt to dig in and do the work? That stuff was thick.

I suppose considering the storm, the severity with trees and power down. The heavy snow and ice, we did OK.
