Yesterday, was one of those days I love in Lakewood.

Birthday Party for Art Mone, celebrating his 104th!

Mark "Shane" Phillips congratulates Art Mone on his 104th birthday. Art among other presents received a proclamation from Mayor Edward FitzGerald, and a letter from President George Bush.

Then PTA's Reflections Awards and party, celebrating the arts in Lakewood Schools.

Matt Harlan from Lolita's cooking for all that showed up at t Jordan’s Family Foundation third annual wine tasting to raise awareness of Congenital Heart Disease at Rozi's Wine House. Corey and Kara did another amazing job raising awareness, funds and fun for all that took part.

Another fun day in Lakewood.

Jacob,

Being a judge for Lakewood's elementary and Avon Lake's school district PTA Reflections contest this year, it's probably low because the submissions were low.

At the elementary level, there were..two submissions (it was low) and at Avon there was only one from the high school.

That being said, teachers don't make it mandatory for kids to submit anything anymore so there aren't that many prizes to give out. At the local level, you can hand out as many prizes as you want, (first, second, third, honorable mention) but only the top move on to State.

At state, in my competition there were 21,000 entries. At the national stage, over about 450,000 entries.

The reason why I participated in the event my Junior year was because it was mandatory for Interactive Media (horrible class). My senior year, I did it to see what would happen the second time.

It's amazing that we have so much talent at the high school, especially with the music programs and the art programs as a whole, that it would be likely a few would participate. I know some of my friends aren't interested in Reflections just because you don't win anything.. But hey! I got $5 gift card to Caribou! I'm happy about that.

If I heard correctly thursday night, over 250 students received awards which is fantastic. I hope that the artistic kids in the lower levels keep their art flowing, we might have the next Viktor Schreckengost at Lincoln or something..
