I do agree with the sentiment ... running away is not a solution... but I don't think this situation is generalizable to Lakewood. Lakewood has always been economically integrated but I think we are just now dealing as a community with the issue of race. The Ludlow community has a 70K average income. I think any neighborhood in Lakewood, with any racial composition, would be doing just fine with a 70K income. I think what Lakewood has to come to terms with is it has a lot of working poor people living here and that being working poor is not a bad thing for the community. Having the working poor being a equal member at the policy table would promote this community in the most positive way.
