How many plan to attend Presidential candidate events in OH?

Post by Ivor Karabatkovic »

Question to fellow observers.

Once the Ohio primary comes along, and candidates hang out around Cleveland, how many plan to attend a speech, rally, etc. of one of their candidates?

Before the whole media storm that now surrounds Barack Obama, Lynn Farris, her husband and I were at a Obama rally at Tri-C. Not many people knew about the Senator, and many doubted he had a legitimate shot.

Without pressing my support/opinions too much I'll just add that I've waited for the moment like this one, where more people are tuning out to what Hilary Clinton (the front runner nationally) is saying and more are hopping on the Obama train. I've been watching CNN, MSNBC and FOX news all day and taking note about how the right, as well as the left, are applauding Obama more and more. It's the type of feeling where you stand back and say "Hate to say I told ya so".

So who will be at a rally next month? How do you think the voter turnout will be in Ohio? Is there a possibility of Candidates speaking in front of students at LHS? I mean, with 2100 students, that's a nice sized crowd to inspire, inform, etc. The more people vote, the better. If you don't vote, you don't have a right to complain.

I just wonder how much time the candidates will actually spend in Ohio. Because of the way the primaries are front loaded, February 5 will essentially be the last date voting even counts. By then, the winner will be clear regardless of what the remaining few states decide.

It's sad really. To be honest, I almost wish primaries all had to be the same day to make every state count.

oops, I just realized that I posted this in the Lakewood thread! I went to the general discussion and couldn't find my thread.

dl, if you feel that this thread belongs in the general discussion area by all means move it. I had a brain error!

Don't think I'll be catching any Presidential primary events - as Bryan mentioned the Democratic nominee should be all but selected by then, but you can bet your last dollar that the nominees will be spending a good deal of time in Ohio before the general election.

I'm more likely to turn out to hear what the Congressional candidates have to say.

Bryan,

I haven't really thought about that until you mentioned it. It makes me wonder too.

Since Ohio is a pretty important state (electoral votes wise) I'd hope candidates make stops here. How many candidates have been in Ohio since last year?

I hope they don't wait too long to start impressing Ohio voters because it can go against them come election time. But then again now that I think about it, Kerry held concerts with Springsteen downtown and made frequent stops to Cleveland, and even though he won the area he didn't win the southern part of Ohio.

So if you do see candidates, it would probably be the Republican candidates here, and the Democrat Candidates farther south around Cincinnati, Oxford, Columbus.

I'd love to see Dennis speak. Ron Paul gave him a plug last night on Leno, saying that if he had to vote for a Democrat it would be Kucinich, they talk frequently and that they agree completely on Iraq, just not on other things.

Dennis will be spending more time here since he's going for Congressman again. The PD was quick to point out competition, but I think the lack of competition is what really should be pointed out. Just yesterday I had to make a stop at the Social Security office because of some complications with my Citizenship. Without Dennis, there wouldn't be a office here. And let me tell you, the wait was long and the office is being used.

With only 12% of the votes in, CNN is already projecting winners...

Ivor,

Four years ago we went to New Hampshire and campaigned and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. You met the candidates like you in the Mayoral campaign here.

Unfortunately by the time it gets to Ohio the race may be decided. I'm sure we will go again because it is so inspiring.

But I do encourage you the next time around to go to one of the early primary states. It is much more intimate there and you do get to actually meet the candidates.

Lynn,

that night when Obama came to Tri-C West, I had a chance to meet him after the show. He's the same before and after the speech which is what won me over.

with roughly 3,000 votes between Hilary and Obama right now, I wonder how this is going to play out.

Obama lead Hilary in polls 39% to 30% yesterday in NH. That 9% lead has to be hidden somewhere, in a county, or it's spread out and it will take the whole 100% to determine the winner.

I wonder why candidates don't make stops to High Schools. I'd love to see a candidate at LHS, or even at my college. The youth is starting to get more involved and informed..

Jennie & I talked about a similar topic the other day. Since Hillary is pushing her healthcare plan, you'd think she would make a stop at a medical school to meet with some of our future doctors, especially in Iowa (Dr. Stephen Gleason, medical advisor to the Clintons, was a graduate of the school where Jennie attends): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Stephen_Gleason

That's why you never trust polls. Especially in the day of cell phones and no landlines. Technically they can't survey a cell phone number so as the number of cellphone only people grows, the polls become more and more inaccurate.

If Hillary comes out ahead, Gallup is going to have to figure out how they were 10% off.

One thing's for certain however, this is shaping up to be a very odd election year...

I love how every time Dennis gets a hundred votes, Hilary loses a percentage off of her lead!

The fact that Dennis is as close to fourth place as Obama is to first, speaks volumes to me. Think about if Dennis had $90 million in campaign money where he would be. It's sad to say that campaign money drives polls and voters more than the candidates themselves.

I wouldn't be surprised if at least one of the nominations is still in play when Ohio votes.

We may not get much attention for the primary, but we'll MORE than make up for it in the fall. Get ready for the sleaziest, dirtiest, slimiest bunch of TV commercials ever.

To be honest, I'm not even sure if Dennis had all the money and everyone else had none whether he'd do much better. He's just waaaaay too far off from the mainstream to broadly appeal to the country.
