School Board Reporter Needed!

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

In 2008 we have some pretty innovative ways to cover the Lakewood Schools.

However we would love to get a School Board Repoprter to cover meetings and keep in touch with the School Board.

With the investment we have made in Lakewood Schools we think this is a very important duty to the residents of Lakewood.

If anyone is interested in trying this out please send me a PM or email.

Thanks in advance.

As far as covering the schools, too bad the old 'Lakewood High Times' can't be incorporated into the LO. It would add content to the paper and possibly help some school kids who are considering journalism and so on.

Joe

The Lakewood Times students are being brought in. I have met with them and we are working with them as to possibly make the Times and insert in the paper, while helping to print it in color. However I have to agree with the student editor that covering the School Board might be uncomfortable for a student.

Because of that, and the fact that we have given them everything they asked for I thought it should be a parent, or resident that holds their feet to the fire so to speak.

We have a good school board and good admistrators but, as tax payers we need to get information out, and the BOE has not been doing the best job.

FWIW

This a great idea! President James Madison said, "A popular government without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a prologue to a farce or a tragedy, or perhaps both."

The Lakewood Times has a new advisor, which makes incorporating them to the LO possible. She knows journalism from experience.

The last few student editors didn't want much to do with the LO. I guess they were afraid to change things around. Now with a new advisor, change is happening. So I'm glad for the Times students because getting their names in print is a big step in the business.

I still get the "Ivor, our photography is nothing without you, can you come back?" comments when I'm at events. I've seen Jacob Ott running around with a Nikon so I know reinforcements are on their way!

I still remember that August evening when a tall, hairy lookin' guy came running down the football sideline and bumped into me. "Hey! you're from the Times. Send me your photos and we'll put them in the paper!".

:P
