Can The Government Stop Free Speech?

I am curious to know if the state or gvernment can stop free speech or the speech of those who post on blogs, discussions boards or elsehwere.

The state is looking into the right of bloggers and boards.

Should this be controlled by the government?

These are some of the interesting questions.

We applied for a radio station in our first year. The form sits in a pile as this group has not issued a radio license since they came in.

As much as it pains me to say this, it came down from a Democrat. Which goes to show you, America is a one party system with much smoke and mirrors.

This will get interesting I promise you.

This is slightly different from what you are thinking.

I do not see this as a big problem for the Observer, but I can see them going back into other boards trying to connect names.

To me it seems like an all out attack on discussion boards. Where we have differentiated ourselves from most using real names. Which seemed to sastify them, I still think it is wrong for the government to dig, try to make connections and regulate who posts and where. Not our business model, but people must be allowed to vent.

Jim,

two of my friends just received an hour on CSU's radio station with no problem. They just signed up for it.

I wonder if once you get the license to have your own radio show, how the restrictions work. It makes me wonder that the LO couldn't get a radio show, but my friends just showed up at CSU and signed up on a sheet and now they have theirs.

I'd love to have my own show

This was not a show, but a radio station.

Before the Bush administration almost anyone could get a 24 watt or lower liscense. That ended with this administration. The actual station was to be located high above Lakewood in the top floor of the Detroit Cook Arts Building.

This is not about that. This is about putting names on comments, and to what extent the government needs to control the comments of citizens.

I am sure you remember those days before you got here.

We still have our application sitting there and Congressman Kucinich assured me he would look into the problem.

Congressman Kucinich is one of the great multi-taskers of all time.

I think he still has the best voting record of all the candidates. Has used his recent appointments to look into the various nightmares brought on but this administration.

I know he also had no plan to run until the Democratic party wents nuts, and decided to support the Bush docturine for war in Iraq. Congressman Kucinich is one of maybe a handfull of congress people, and senators that is actually doing the will of the voters instead of big business.

I thnk we might agree that two of the biggest problems effecting the 10th district, and America are predatory lending and the war. I understand that LO's radio station is not real high on that list. I can wait.

I am always curious when people go to the koolaid card, especially with Congressman Kucinich.

Worked to keep jobs in Lakewood and the 10th district. 1st Congressman in 25 years to being the Federal Reserve in to testify about their hand in predatory lending. The only congressman to be 100% right about the war that is turning America into a third world country, and is now doing what he can to make the US Government keep their promises to Veterans.

Why is he evil again? Do you really think anyone could have done better for the district and city?

I am a registered Democrat and I dont think he is evil at all. I just dont support him or buy into his message completely. He is, first and foremost, a politician with an ego to match.

Do you think all the good he is currently doing is his penance for the not so good as mayor? Perhaps.

Well here is one of our problems.

What did he do that was not so good as mayor.

If Congressman has one problem, is that he does not get information out about why or how he is doing things.

He was right when mayor, history and even the Plain Dealer has admitted.

I know for a fact that he was not running for president again. He was very happy with his appointment, and looking forward to looking into various programs he had felt let the American people down. His staff were assured. But when the Democratic Caucus brought up funding the war, he walked out, and declared his run. Feeling it was the only way to hold the Democrat candidate's feet to the fire on the war and the last vote.

I understand the frustration people have with him, but if they were to dig a little deeper, they might see a little of what I see.

Ego, hell yes, name the politician without?

I also know he is the most approachable member of congress. To watch him relaxing at bela dubby as people recognize hm and hold him to the fire is to see politics as it should be.

Disclaimer - I do not buy into the Congressman completely.

take this for what it is worth because I was very young when he was mayor, so I have only read written accounts of his tenure..

just that he was very confrontational and a lot of the moves he made as mayor put the city into huge debt. While I know that it was already headed that way when he took office, he was still voted the 7th worst mayor in American History- mostly due to how messy, young and inept his administration was at that time.

Not only that, he is a flip flopper... not that most politicians arent. AS soon as he started looking for the dem support and votes, he changed his stance on abortion. He seems fair weather to me like all the others.
