Max's needs a new home

Post by Bret Callentine »

just saw this story on the cleveland.com website : http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2007 ... redes.html

Max's Deli is apparently NOT going to open up at the new westgate location and is therefor looking for a new location.

For the love of pete, does anyone have any connections? If there is an opportunity, we should definitely try to bring them accross the river.

So glad they won't be going into the new westgate, that place just makes me feel all icky. I would love to have them in Lakewood. We really have missed their desserts. Jim are you working on this??

For what it's worth, I know Michelle pretty well. If someone has some thoughts on a location, I'd be willing to make the necessary intros....

Hollywood video site? Parking is in place but the kitchen would be an issue.
I would assume Rockport would be a great fit. Built to suit?

How about the empty old bank building across the street from Sweet Design and next to Lacy P. I think that is a cool building and it has great neighbors. Or how about where the Army and Navy guys just left from.

From someone in the know... from what I understand, the big issue for a potential new site will be parking. There wasnt enough at the old space and they need more. For that reason, I dont think the Old recruiting office site would work. Plus, that building sucks. The owner needs to do some serious work on that facade.

Though wherever they do end up, I hope their service improves. I've eaten there a number of times, and service is absolutely glacial, and at best, indifferent.

Wasn't standoffish service kind of their "thing", though? Like, "you should be glad to even be here"?

As a longtime customer (although not a heavy user) of Maxs, I have to ask why the owner left a going concern for the "promises" of greener pastures.
Doesnt sound business-savvy to me. Was the landlord trying to increase the rent based on the new Beachcliff stores? Did she have stars in her eyes about the new Westgate? It seems like it would be a total change in her business model to move (neighborhood deli to mall chain city). A lot of us were scratching our heads over that.

Side note. I never encountered indifferent service at Maxs. It was always OK by me.

I know of at least one restaurant for lease and two other restaurants for sale in Lakewood if they really wanted to move here.
