St. Eds Basketball team highlighted on SI.com
Hi,
My son saw this and I didn't think it has been pointed out by anyone. Nice to see local kids getting attention for the right reasons.

St. Edward's first basketball game of the season will be played next Thursday night against California's Campbell Hall High School. It will be broadcast on ESPN from St. Edward at 9PM.
Delvon is a great kid and has signed with Michigan State (my -and Diane Helbig's alma mater! GO GREEN). He is among a group of about 40 St. Edward students spending today at the Women's Pavilion for a Fellowship of Christian Athletes retreat.

St.Eds standout athlete Delvon Roe, who's FINALLY a senior, has accepted a full ride to Michigan State to play basketball. After his sophomore year, Roe had about 10 choices for schools to play basketball at and finally narrowed it down to two; North Carolina and Michigan State.
They'll be playing Lakewood on December 15th at LHS. 7pm.

If you image google Delvon Roe, you will find that the first photo listed was taken by me back in December of last year when Lakewood played St.Ed at their gym.
It doesn't take you to the observer website though, rather a unknown blog where someone has taken my photo and used it without permission to make his words look prettier!
hey, welcome to technology in 2007! don't worry, the photo will be down soon I promise

Too bad Lakewood sports (LHS, St. Eds, middle schools, and so on) aren't covered (better) in the LO paper.
LHS XC team qualified for and competed at the State Championship in Columbus. Wasn't mentioned in the paper that I saw.
The team was represented by 7 great runners. 2 of which placed in the top 10; Makorobondo Salukombo and Nick Meeson. They placed in the top 10 in the State! The team placed 6th overall.
Quite an accomplishment.
A paper for the people and by the people should recognize local students/people who accomplished what these boys did.
Congratulations to the athletes, coaches, team, and all those involved.

Joe,
I completely agree with you, but there are two writers that do all the heavy lifting.
A paper by the people means exactly that, the people that want to see coverage give the coverage.
During the Spring season I had to write all the articles for baseball and softball that were published. Most of the time it was 2-3 paragraphs. That's all it takes and people are happy.
After all, this is a "volunteer" thing. If you want something in the paper, there are plenty of ways to get things in there. You're very familiar with using the Member Center to publish photos, maybe you can teach a parent to use it as well and upload a paragraph or two about the season every other week. I think they can handle that much responsibility.
I certainly can't do it all. Between Rocky River and Lakewood Sports and the Indians, I couldn't be in three places at once during the track season. Neither can the writers. They have jobs too.
The best coverage would be from the people that are there as witnesses, who know the athletes and coaches personally.
