Cox upgrades network to 1GHz, 25MBps speeds

A tech was at my apartment last weekend and indicated they were splitting nodes in Lakewood. My guess that 25MBps is imminent...

That should give AT&T a real run for its money.

Hopefully this will materialize and not just be vaporware...that would be sweet.

Some Cox markets already have 20MBps...

It will be even faster when Cox starts rolling out DOCSIS 3.0 and turning it on at the headend. Tons of speed at a fraction of the cost of fiber-to-the-home, and far more robust than U-Verse.

cox can have 100MBps at a affordable price if it wants but it's customer service is absolutely horrible.

AT&T is even worse.

I would take Cox over AT&T any day of the week.

same here. I haven't had any problem with Cox customer service, nor the tech support. It will be great when they upgrade, though. What's the holdup??

After looking at posts on DSLReports and speaking with a Cox tech, I believe the upgrades are either underway or have been completed. They just need to go 'live' with them at the headend.

Once DOCSIS 3.0 goes live in the next year or so, that's when AT&T will get left in the dust.

I'll see if I can confirm this with Cox.

No problem. The tech I spoke with on Saturday said that nodes in Lakewood were being split, which according to the DSLReports posts is indicative of network upgrades:

I have really been impressed with Cox customer service. I had one issue with connectivity (for a day) and they came out and re-wired from inside my house to the pole.

I think Cox's everyday customer service is pretty good.

However, I had a nightmare experience trying to get cable installed at my house when we moved in. They didn't show, the people on the phone were rude and unhelpful. They didn't show up again, told they couldn't come out for three more days. This is after I missed work now twice for their "4 hour window". The manager I spoke with was rude.

In the end I had to call the office of the president down in Atlanta to get anything done. If Uverse had existed then, I wouldn't have been a Cox customer.

I have noticed Cox has been more aggressive about adding HD channels over the last few months.

Apparently their plan is to have 100+ HD channels by 2010. I think in order to do this, they need to eliminate analog cable for the extra bandwidth.

I have a feeling that in March 2009 they will probably do just that.

They've also been testing switched digital video systems in 2 markets, according to the press release. If they deploy that system-wide, that would give them virtually unlimited channel capacity.

They seem to be adding newer technologies MUCH faster than the telcos.
