Staph infection hit Lakewood High School student??

Was there a student at LHS that was infected with the new "resitant proof" staph? I watched the news this morning and they mentioned Bay Village and other surrounding areas, but I was pretty sure I heard a report that it was at LHS as well.

Any ideas?

There was a letter in the mail today from the Lakewood City Schools that talks about a case of Staph infection. The case was found at the Lakewood City Academy.

I received a letter about this, and it was also in the Sun News this week, however my daughter said the school told the students that it is a rumor and there really isn't a student with the infection. She said that because of the laws, the school still had to notify parents. Looking up the law, it does say that "suspected cases shall be reported."

That's what I know.

Who in "the school?" A teacher? The principal? A security guard?

Right now, we have a letter on school letterhead signed by the superintendent of schools stating a fact, and a high school student citing an unnamed source saying it is a "rumor" Now TWO stories are out there. Sometimes the Internet isnt all that helpful.

My letter states that there IS a child with MRSA. I'll take the word of Dr Estrop over a high school child repeating a rumor.

Ms. Elwell, the principal at LCA came in and talked to the students about it. Frankly, I'm not all that concerned with how this situation is being handled. I'm not going to question the school on every issue. I trust they're doing what they need to do.

Several people were infected last year.. The outbreak could not be controlled.. (clicky)

take it from someone who was in the building for 182 school days and covered the issue for the high school's newspaper. Take it from someone who knew the people infected personally.

it was controlled and taken care of as soon as the football team returned from Berea.

the bacteria was in the locker room, so they cleaned both locker rooms and bathrooms and sprayed the field just to be safe.

That was the last anyone mentioned staph, even throughout the wrestling season which is pretty surprising.

haha yeah I did.

but I want to reassure anyone and everyone that is worrying about their kids and this staph. It was handled really, really, really good last year and I wouldn't expect any less this year.

I was at the board meeting on Monday when they announced it. Really I am not that worried. I think they will do a good job of keeping it contained. And I think they do a good job of informing the parents.
