Ed, Where's the Democrat Club money?

Post by Thomas J. George »

Ed,

You and your campaign chair have refused numerous attempts to disclose the fund balance in the Lakewood Democratic Club.

Where is the money from the Club?

Why have you refused numerous requests to provide a treasurer's report to Club members?

As the Endorsed Democrat for Mayor and the endorsed candidate of the Lakewood Democratic Club, I demand answers.

Looking forward to a reply.

Tom-

No requests have been denied, and our treasurer would be happy to give a report at tonight's meeting. Unfortunately, as mayor, you haven't raised much money for the local Democratic party, so there's not as much as you may be thinking. We will be sending out an endorsement letter for any Democrats who still want to be on a sample ballot with you.

Now, will you be returning the Kauffman Park contributions, and if so, when?

denied repeated requests

Post by Thomas J. George »

Ed,

You know you've denied repeated requests to reveal the books....and you keep making empty promises that the balance will be revealed soon..soon is now.

The real issue is why are you continuing to undercut development efforts in Lakewood? You had every opportunity to ask questions about Kauffman Park at committee hearings and at Council meetings but didn't.
You had every opportunity to inform "100" neighbors and interested parties about the committee meetings, but didn't.

At committee meetings you sat right next to members of the Chamber of Commerce and Lakewood Alive who support the park study and remained silent.

Now you say you and "100" neighbors are in the dark. Why didn't you ask questions when you had the opportunity?

I had several neighbors from Virginia Avenue ask me questions about Kauffman and I brought them into my office to discuss with them what I know.

This is the kind of communication we've utilized to get projects like the Cliffs, Rockport, Walgreens, Rosewood Place and others up and going without controversy.

Obstructionists find a reason for inaction.

Tom-

This is truly laughable. The Democratic Club is a local political organization that never has more than a couple thousand dollars in the bank. The treasurer keeps the balance, and always reveals it if asked. She'll give the number out tonight, and you can post it to your heart's content.

Kauffman Park, on the other hand, is a public asset, and millions of dollars are at stake, not to mention the quality of life for thousands of residents who surround the park.

Why did you feel it was appropriate to take thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from the very parties negotiating to purchase the park? Will you return the contributions? Why were these contributions made, if not to influence you?

And finally, after losing an election by 30 points to a challenger, and only getting 26 percent of the vote, who in the world is advising you that a key issue is the checking account balance of the Lakewood Democratic Club?

Mr Mayor,
Considering the huge amount of controversy surrounding the proposed Kaufmann Park development, do you plan on returning the $4500 donation you received from the developers?

It would certainly clear up any doubts about conflict of interest or political favors. I know it would certainly put to rest any concerns about your campaign for alot of people.

It had to die sometime, MTG, like most politicians, never continues a conversation once he gets put on the spot.
