Dr. Wagner is a reasonable person - I don't know if the family has contacted him directly. While I understand a zero tolerance polciy for fighting - this case and perhaps others are exceptions.

This girl repeatedly asked for assistance with a threat. She didn't get help. Then when she was attacked and apparently defended herself she was punished - rather seriously punished.

I hope this is resolved with less than a law suit against the schools. I can't help but wonder if this was a National Merit Student, a High Powered Attorney's child or a Politican's child that perhaps it would have been resolved quickly and perhaps before it got to violence.

JMHO.

Lynn,

I hope it goes to the courts so that the students get some kind of justice.

Every day there's something new..every single day.

Even when I went there, it was brutal. I was blessed with great teachers around me that knew how to teach well and with passion so it kept me around.

Some of you may remember last year I posted what was happening to my daughter at Lakewood High School. She was being sexual harassed and stocked by a boy at school. He would show up in her classes that he was not assigned too. He would go to her lunch when he should have been in class. (You would think he would have been in trouble for not being in the correct classes or lunch room) We complained to the school many times. We went to the principal’s office many times, nothing; we asked the school that has a zero tolerance policy in place to do something to keep him away from her.

He tossed Jell-O on her one day at lunch. My husband went to the school to demand that they do something. (This boy was not suspended for ten days). Only for two days right before Thanksgiving Break. The school at that point told us that they really could not do more, that we would have to file a police report. The police department did not want to even take the report when my husband went there. However they finally did. It was than assigned to the county courts. The school did not provide an escort for this boy until they received a court order, which was not until late March early April. During that time he continued to harass her. In late April she was also assigned an escort to and from class because he said that she was harassing him. Judgment came in late May when he was order by the courts not to have nay contact with her, 50 hours of community service and two years of probation.

This year Lakewood High School has them in two classes together. Where is the justice there?

bullies generally rely on the rules to antagonize their victims.

In some ways high school is a lot tougher than it used to be. It is both less valuable and less fun, yet somehow more important and tedious. A combination of toothless adults, suburbia, obtuse rules, and consumerism have made it easier than ever to be a flunky, junky, monky, goon, or loon.

That's why it is more important than ever to teach kids to shield themselves. Get them to start listening to classic rock and sneaking beers early, so they don't fall prey to the nonsense that is high school. That is my advice to the kids.
