When I used to race sports cars in the S.C.C.A it seems the rule was we always had to have cheap cigars and Blatz beer when working on the cars. Too much Blatz was probably the cause of a few engine problems. When a connecting rod pierces a block and oil spews all over it's amazing how affective the smoke is at getting rid of mosquitoes...
I used to go to Mexico and smoke Cuban cigars on occasion.
When backpacking it seems we always have to have cheap cigars for the camp fire at night.
Haven't had one for a long time though. They all seemed the same to me...

For some reason, even though cigarettes make me physically ill, cigars are completely different, and I actually enjoy smoking a cigar, though nowadays it's only at weddings or special events, and not terribly often since I got married last year (a bit more when I was a bachelor and would get together for poker parties with buddies) ... I wish I knew what it was about cigars, but they're just a pleasure to smoke, as bad as I know they are!

Stephen- I don't smoke cigars. However, I do associate the aroma with everything New York. Perhaps Ken Warren can chime in. I grew up until the age of 10 on Long Island and cigar smoking was popular especially amongst the fathers of my Italian American friends. So, cigar smoke brings an instantaneous link between pizzas, Jones Beach, and anything New York.
Here in Lakewood, cigar smoking meant Swisher Sweets, surreptitiously smoked in a tree in the back yard.
Then, there was the 30 year interlude of cigarette smoking.
However, I can relate to those who would find pleasure in sitting back and indulging in a cigar.

A subject near and dear.....
Nothing quite like sitting on the stoop, maybe a good Bourbon, my trusty Newf at my side, and relaxing with a good cigar. Smoking a cigar REQUIRES that you slow down.
There is a group of 7 guys who began getting together once a month for some poker, a beer and a cigar. We have been doing that for 14 years...through births, deaths, a divorce, graduations....all kinds of milestone events. We have all enjoyed this camaraderie, based partly on our being able to kick back and enjoy a cigar.
The key to enjoying a cigar, is to so so in moderation. As Mark Twain once said, " I always smoke cigars in moderation....one at a time"
Cigar Cigar in River is a welcoming place to sit awhile and enjoy a puros....

Sounds like a winning idea. If there is such a place, I'd like to know. Warm evening, trees, good company, a drink of some type and a fine cigar. Ahhh.
