LHS Soccer

Post by Joe Ott »

I was at a soccer game last night at the high school. First time I have ever been to a soccer game. :) I'm not a typical stick-and-ball sports fan...

I just wanted to see Dee play and take a few pics. I'm not sure who Lkwd was playing even. Westlake? Anyway, when I left Lkwd was being beat. Anybody know what the final score was?

Thanks.

don't know the final score but westlake is probably the strongest team in our conference when it comes to soccer.

Let's not forget the Lady Rangers! Last night the women fought a hard game against Shaker, losing 3-0. They looked very good against a team that embarrassed them last year. They will be playing home, this weekend.

That's a tough sport. They never seem to stop moving. Very athletic for sure.

When and where is the game this weekend.

Ivor, I was hoping to see you there last night...

The Women's soccer teams will take to the Lakewood High stadium field on Saturday. JV at 1:00, Varsity at 3:00. Looks like it will be a great day for a soccer game.

Ivor,

I have an ancient Nikon mount 70-210 I used in the 70's. Took a butt load of pics for the old Lakewood High Times with it. It would be totally manual. If it would mount on your camera, you can have it.

So David, how many of the new D3's have you pre-ordered? :)

I put a couple pics of the game in a blog if interested. Still playing around with CaptureNX... I don't understand why, in the blog viewer, they are so dark though...

I was covering the volleyball scrimmages in Mentor this past thursday. Thursday was a rough day for me, I had a lot on my mind. As I was switching back and forth between my wide angle and telephoto, I put down the telephoto lens and ended up forgetting it.

I haven't heard back from the volleyball coach about it. Hopefully Mentor's coach found the lens and sent it to LHS already like planned... but there's always the possibility that someone saw it and took it. The lens came out in 1987 so it's older than I am. Maybe it's time for a new upgrade. Even the lower end Canon lenses are still an upgrade compared to this ancient thing!

Joe,
What setting did you shoot at? While taking photos down at the Jake, I learned a simple lesson. Manual setting.

You need at least a 1/250th second shutter speed to stop action. the bright background and sun will make your camera think that there's more light than there really is. The white jerseys also fool the camera. So if you have a 1/350th of a second shutter but you really need a 1/600th shutter, you will have a nice, light, sharp photo.

And thank you for the offer but my camera is a Canon so it wont fit.

Mr.Endress,

I got a phonecall from the girls varsity coach, really nice guy. He gave me an update on how the game at Shaker Heights went and that both teams had lost.

BUT;
last year's score was 5-0 and ended in the team fighting. This year's score was 3-0 and from what I heard there were a lot of positives.

I really like the two new coaches. They're young, they can have fun with the team members and can understand their struggles etc.etc. but at the same time I've never seen a girls soccer team run so much and work so hard without complaining.

They've really turned this program around. They deserve a lot of credit!

Thanks. Yeah, I used manual and spot metering as well as a variety of settings. I never use Auto nor the PhD button (Push here Dummy). :)

I knew the white wall and low sun were playing heck with the meter. That angle of the sun is the worst conditions for sure. I was watching the histogram and could see the extremes...

I WISH I could afford a D3...but now that it's officially coming out, that just means the D2 & D200 prices will drop...
