The traffic light on Summit and Detroit is one of the most blatantly abused lights in Lakewood (obviously in my opinion). Cars are still going through the light seconds after the green light appears in the other direction.
I understand the distance between the stopping line/crosswalk and the actual light is a bit longer than the Lakewood standard, so how about a longer delay before the light changes green for the other direction.
I count to three before even attempting to creep out into the intersection when the light changes, always irking following drivers but safety matters. My fear is that...sorry, too obvious.
Anyone else notice this?

This isn't at this intersection...it is most in Lakewood, as far as I can tell. I never rush into an intersection and already saw a little girl hit by a car doing the same up by...well, oddly enough, one block east of Summit and Detroit. I was thinking this point in general very recently. I think the cameras for stopping this are a cheap way of raising revenue but you know what, lacking any police watching these intersections, what else is there?
Also the timing of this goes nicely with the Crossing Guard discussion because it is for this very reason that I prefer a more experienced adult watching intersections. Too many people blow through a red as the yellow expires and far too often in this 'burb lately.

Cameras or not, there has to be a way to take a stance by the police to stop this dangerous habit of light crashing. I'm all for a camera on that corner, and any corner that it helps. Simply don't break the law if you don't want to get caught and possibly injure someone or yourself.
I know Lakewood is all about spending money on studies, set some people up on the corner in their comfy lawn chairs to tally the number of light crashers (compare that to the number of light changes and I bet it is a close match).
I understand the old bully way of setting an example out of somebody, or making someone a guinea pig (I know I have been made one enough times in life)--have the police watch and write some tickets in that intersection, send the message. Pitch it high and inside if you have to, just to get the message out.

1 - Educate people how to drive.
We don't do that in this country.
2 - Educate people on traffic laws.
We don't do that in this country.
3 - Educate people on road manners.
We don't do that in this country.
4 - Educate people on what happens when you are traveling down the road at 70 mph in a 2 ton SUV and have to suddenly stop. Vehicle dynamics.
We don't do that in this country.
5 - Educate people that while yapping on a cell phone you are just as impaired as a legally drunk driver.
We don't do that in this country. Studies have proven that fact over and over. Outlaw driving and cell phones!. That includes eating, reading papers, looking at laptops and so on.
6 - Educate people that driving is a privilege not a right.
We don't do that in this country.
7 - Educate people why cars have review & sideview mirrors and how to use them to tell where their car is.
We don't do that in this country.
45000 people die in this country every year due to traffic related incidents.
Stepping off soapbox now...
