John

I sure hope your little bird has accurate info! Talk about a destination shop. With the gas savings from not driving to Crocker, I can get a couple bottles of two buck chuck!

Jeff (already thinking of shaved beef for Philly's)

The ironic thing about Lakewood is that Danielle is right.

Lakewood is uniquely situated to thrive.

Housing sales and values are stronger than you think.

Crime is a problem but not a big one. The crime rate is more a function of the youth of the City than a crime wave. The average age in Lakewood is much younger than Rocky River or Fairview. The streets are safe.

Detroit is a vibrant street. I like the hustle and bustle.

A Trader's Joe's at Rockport would be a catalyst for the whole area. It would bring in other retailers.

People tell me they always "shop West, never East". That is a self destructive attitude. Lakewood's commercial mission statement should contain the phrase "Shop East not West".

Here is an idea for a vibrant East: Narrow Madison Avenue to two lanes from Bunts to the Library and allow restaurants to use the extra space for outdoor dining. Lakewood has more to offer than little Italy. Why not little Italy West?

All it takes is leadership.

Speaking of Trader Joe's, here's a little factoid:

The CEO of ALDI is the owner of Trader Joe's.

Well it's a good thing they got eminent domain for the west end development, otherwise there would be little to no development ever again in Lakewood. Wait, didn't the eminent domain fail? Regardless, I am sure Trader Joe's and Aldi's was all Mayor Cain's doing. :)

Aldi's is kind of an interesting company, according to what I read on wikipedia. Supposedly, there are two Aldi's. Apparently two brothers controlled the company and had a disagreement regarding the sale of cigarettes, so they split the company into two. Each brother controls his own set of stores, but they keep out of the same countries. So, only one of the brothers has Aldi's stores in the US.
