Library Update
Some of the Library patrons are unaware of a few "missing" parts to the addition. One of those pieces (actually 3) are the chandeliers for the Grand Reading Room. These Large fixtures (titled as L-5's in the plans) had a delay in fabrication. They are scheduled for delivery any day. Once on site, they will be installed, which require a shut down of the Grand Reading Room for a day. Don't be shocked if you see warning tape at the room's entrances. Only for a day.

Jeff,
I hope everyone remembers that the library is just half done. There are several significant elements that won't be revealed until next spring when those temporary walls come tumblin' down. It's exciting to anticipate the end result.

Is that why I could not find the comic books?

Indeed Suzanne. There are several significant elements that won't be revealed until next spring when those temporary walls come tumblin' down.
At the weekly construction meeting on Tues., there was a good deal of discussion about the current demo work where the "grand stair" will be located. The stair, with a skylight similar to that at the entrances, will flow naturally from the west end of the circulation area, leading the the collections that will be located on the upper level of the renovated building. For any familiar with the original library, this feature is very suggestive of the original stairs that graced the Carnegie structure. If one looks at the south side, between the buildings, you can see where that work is progressing.
Grand Reading room murals are also being worked upon by muralist Richard Haas, and while we don't yet have a definite completion and installation date, it should be sometime around the first of the year. Those large (now empty) walls on the east and west Grand Reading Room interior elevations will be covered by these murals that depict the history, culture, archtecture and commerce of Lakewood. From the miniatures I have seen, they will be a real focal point, probably a mandatory stop for Lakewood students studying local history. They truly speak to you.
