Flyers?
Anyone know who sent out the flyers for yesterday's city council meeting?
They mention the safety issue.
Just curious.

I've been to both safety meetings and the second one was probably the last one for me.

The flyer from what I saw was nothing more than a ptiful scare tactic.
It got no one to last night's meeting, which was also a crime meeting.
People try to further their causes with scare tactics and it often backfires.
Another one to watch was a report from D. Anderson of a candidate speaking about the "increased gnag violence" in Lakewood, and the poor job an elected offical is doing in that ward.
There is no increase in Gang Violence in Lakewood.
There are increase homicides in Cleveland. There are many many more buglaries in Westlake, Bay and North Olmsted than last year as well.
Crime is up all over. I still say thanks to the current situation in America. No work, over extended credit, stress and drugs.
This is a time to think staright and act rationally and quickly. Of course the fact that we are going regional does not help with any planning. Maybe we could ask our friends in East Cleveland what they have palnned for us, Bay, Westlake, etc.

I resent and am angered by this political posturing and campaign tactic of creating, inflating, and disseminating the idea that Lakewood is a hotbed of crime and gangs violence.
If ANYTHING has a negative impact on my property values, this it it.
WHY would anyone want to purchase a home in Lakewood when the so-called leaders of the community are fanning the flames of fear?
How dare they characterize my chosen community and home as they do?
It's a slimy campaign tactic that I agree will backfire.
If that's the strategy for winning, they'll be shown for what they really are: a LOSER.

I found out last night council meeting that a private citizen published and distributed the flyer.
From what I gather X is not affiliated or favors any candidate and was just surprised at how few people seem to attend council meetings or are aware of current issues in Lakewood especially in X's neighborhood.
X's heart seems to be in the right place but I haven't seen the flyer to read the wording.
I know that a few people attended last nights meeting only because they had received the flyer.

Just curious, the office got phone calls that the flyers were being left at coffee shops and various businesses.
I attended last night's meeting and it seemed to empty out pretty fast after the resolutions.
Phoneix mentioned that he might be on the security camera, but are waiting for this DVD to finish to look.
Just want to talk to the group.

Jim,
Talking to them is a great idea. I think they have the right idea. From what I hear attendance is lack-luster at best. The council sounds like a great place to engage the community.
Although I think the last thing we need in this country is more fear-mongering I think this group was on the right (if not poorly executed) path. Maybe we can engage them in a more constructive way to get more people out to meetings.
The wife and I are going to start attending council meetings. Not sure why the idea did not strike me

More at council is good.
Were you there last night?
We are looking at many ways to bring council to the home.
Radio and TV being discussed the most.

I saw the flyer, my wife brought it home from the dry cleaners that we patronize. I also had discussions with people Saturday regarding the flyer and they said they were going to attend and were there sitting in the audience.
However, I had to leave at around 10, so I don't know if anything transpired after that.
The flyer certainly made me curious, that is why I was there.

Colleen Wing wrote:Again, if it is the same flyer, it was just one person not working with a group.
If someone gets a name or knows the person have them drop me a line. I think it is fascinating that a person has gotten worked this up, would like to know why.
Seems like they would have been better served doing it for the security meetings, or try to focus on an effort to make a difference. This shotgun approach seems peculiar to me.
I'd love a chance to talk to him before his fear drives him mad, and destroys property values in this city.
Colleen you have to excuse me but I am reading a non-fiction book that is all about chasing people from preferred property with fear, race and culture clashes, religion and other items being used by groups for gentrification, and $$$$$$$$.
Look no farther than Dan Slife's report on "Voices and Choices." where regionalism is portrayed as the cure for everything that bothers you. Even dandruff!
Concerned citizen, that is what I am hoping. That is energy that can be channeled into progress.
