Carbon Neutral Lakewood?

I saw today that the Vactican has become Carbon Neutral. Has anyone (for example Dennis Dunn? or Mike Skindell?) calculated what Lakewood would need to do to become Carbon Neutral? I don't think we will achieve it tomorrow or next year - but maybe we could babystep our way to it. Maybe plan to be Carbon Neutral in 10 years.

I really think that we are well positioned to be a mecca for progressives that care about the environment and working to be carbon neutral and doing PR that we are doing this would be a big boon to our city.

Any ideas?

Hi,
Quick, someone break into the Council meeting, have them vote on this while they still can. Who knows how long it will be before regionalism takes away their power to vote on such matters.

I used outdoor solar lighting instead using electrical lights.. Does that count?

I'm carbon neutral, it's not that hard to do. Visit http://www.carbonfund.org for more information. They work with individuals, companies, govts, etc.

Isn't the idea to have a clean environment, not just a clear conscience?

I'm not paying the church to get to heaven, and I'm not paying anyone to compensate for my footprint. I have no problem with the city wanting to change to electric cars or having wind powered stop lights, but please stop touting "carbon offsets" as any type of real solution.

Just remember if everyone in the world would just change out one lightbulb, we would save enough electricity to power Al Gore's house for a day.

ride a bike
take public transportation
embrace nuclear power

Bret, you're being short sighted. It's not saying to not reduce your footprint, but rather offset what you can't reduce.

Individually we can change our behaviors, replace lightbulbs, etc, and I've done all those things. However, I also feel better knowing that I"m helping fund clean energy, plant trees, etc, for that carbon footprint I can't reduce.
