Marathon Baseball Game to benefit LHS Athletics

Post by Ivor Karabatkovic »

Dear Observers;

I received a call from a friend who graduated along with me, Eric Converse, about this great idea he had for an event. Working closely with the Lakewood Recreation Department, he was able to come up with this great event to benefit LHS Athletics in the name of Coach Jerry Gruss.

Scheduled for Saturday, August 11th, 9am to 9pm, at Lakewood Baseball Stadium, there will be a marathon Baseball game for kids 14 and up.

Entry fee is $10 which includes a T-Shirt.

The mission is for participants to get pledges, either for every inning played or for every hour played in the event.

Sign up your kids today at the Lakewood Recreation Department,

Lakewood Recreation Department
1456 Warren Road
Lakewood, Ohio 44107

or sign ups will be available for the first hour of the event on Saturday, August 11th.

I will be there and so will the rest of LHS baseball alumni. It will be great fun and it's all for a great cause. I encourage all of you to sign up your kids!

Sincerely,
Ivor

Jim's idea was to break the world record for the longest baseball game.

the longest baseball game in the guinness world records is 30 hours and 5 minutes.

from the AP:
Sept. 6 - Talk about extra innings. A baseball game that began at 10 a.m. Saturday in Alliance ended Sunday at 4:05 p.m.
That's 30 hours and five minutes between the first pitch and the final out.

Forty players, ranging in age from 18 to 44, rotated in and out of the 84-inning game in hopes of setting a Guinness World Record for the longest baseball game.

The record stands at 25 hours, set in Canada nearly three years ago.

Alliance organizers tried to beat the record last year, but that game ended at 24 hours, 16 minutes.

This year's game was won by the Alliance Times-Herald Dragons, which beat the WESTCO Knights by a score of 120 to 114.
