Make sure your cable connection is working at top speed

Post by Donald Farris »

Hi,
I wanted to share something I discovered this weekend.

Your Cable modem may be limiting your Internet speed.

I have had a cable connect for a number of years and the cable modem was supplied by the cable provider. I've always figured it was a device that either worked or it didn't. It never occurred to me that it could be slowing down our throughput.

We have been watching more news and Daily Show videos clips lately and the speed has been troublesome. Start it and then go do something else for 5 minutes and then come back and watch it. Well, this weekend I called and spoke with a Tech at the cable provider and we looked into my situation.

Well, I discovered that the cable modem was not designed to run at the speed of my connection. I went out and bought a new cable modem that is designed to run a connection 4 times faster than my current one. You have to check because I had to go to 3 different places and look rather hard to find a modem that was high speed. There were many that were as slow as the one I had.

Well, once I got that hooked up we were quite pleased. :D Now the Michael Moore - Sanjay Gupta videos fly down at real speed. It's a beautiful thing.

If you have had your cable modem for a few years, you may want to look into it.
