Parking issues aside Lakewood Stadium is better stadium to watch a football game than either Bedford or Pat Catan (Strongsville) stadiums. Neither stadium can provide the atmosphere and intimacy the Lakewood Stadium provides. However, from a working perspective Bedford Stadium has the best press box and best facilities of any stadium in the region without a doubt.

While the Shaw marching band always put on a outstanding show don't forget about the great marching bands that Shaker Heights used to bring into Lakewood Stadium.

As far as the Hot Dogs go Lakewood can only be the second best in Cuyahoga County because Euclid's Sparky Dibasio Stadium has hot dogs that are usually better than the game itself.

Mark,

Yes, I remember the face paint well. We may have used some of it on those disgusting white buck shoes

Jeff, I suppose that anything white would have been used with them. Mr. Strang would tolerate nothing less than white shoe perfection.

I remember Paul Droste too. When he went to OSU, I seem to recall that he tried to get me to come down and play bass drum for him.

I wanted to stay around here, though, due to my music stuff going on, so I want to CSU.

Which, of course, meant two more years at Lakewood High for night school at CSU's Lakewood Branch. (See my past Observer column "Our Neighbors Furry and Feathered" for the famous tale of the elephant charge upon me at CSU's Lakewood High night school.)

Do you still have your yearbooks? I do. Great times indeed.

Hopefully our LHS alumni band will continue, and that you and others sharing all these memories can get back on the field once in awhile!
