New City Job at the Sign Shop-Cronyism at Work?

Post by Bill Call »

It seems that the brother of Councilmen Seelie has been given a job as the head of the City's sign shop.

Does anyone have any additional information on this?

I am also looking for information on the hiring of some new water and sewer department employees. I've been told that some are working hard on the reelection campaign of the guy who hired them. Is this cronyism or no big deal?

Jobs are hard to find and on a personal level it's hard to fault people for hiring friends or friends of friends but....

Are these jobs political appointments or civil service?

I guess political connections have always been a factor in City employment but should they be?

Seeley not Seelie

Bill,

Dave SEELEY, began work in Public Works in January, 2001.

He is not related to Councilman SEELIE.

Thanks-Tom George

My source is a senior official in City government not known to pass on gossip. (I am not related to him in any way!).

I have emailed he/she for an answer. Until I hear back from the source I think we all have to assume that I was given incorrect information.

I will post a sincere apology to you and councilmen Seelie as a separate post within a day or so unless my source can substantiate the information emailed to me.

I want to give my source a chance to explain his/her email. If I don't hear from he/she I will have to assume I was given incorrect information.

If you really want to give yourself a headache, try looking at the number of unrelated Corrigans we have working for the city. :)
