Come on now fellow Observers. How can Jim, or any other candidate, compete with the platform item currently being offered by the Demro camp? Here is that candidate's economic development agenda:
"ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
The only way to secure our future and to reduce our tax burden is through economic growth.
Small Business
1) Parking
a) Implement Parking Study
Create New Parking
2) Development
Identify retail needs
Seek out retailers
3) Retention
a) Expansion
b) Relocation
c) Marketing"
My suggestion, as if anyone cares, is to have Jim enter file the papers as an Independent as a way to influence the debates, then announce his candidacy and actually start running (not literally) as late as possible.

Spare me. An outline is not a platform or leadership.David Anderson wrote:How can Jim, or any other candidate, compete with the platform item currently being offered by the Demro camp?
Tax burden may be a concern to some, but a high quality of life (Clean, Safe & Fun) trumps it. If taxes can make Lakewood cleaner and safer, I'm okay with that. (Fun may require expensive outside consultants.
3 c, Marketing? Demro knows marketing outside the realm of politics?
In Lakewood, all elections for Judge, Mayor, Council, and School Board are non-partisan, at least on paper. I know we can count on Jim to be "Independent", at least until he runs for his 2nd or 3rd term.David Anderson wrote:My suggestion, as if anyone cares, is to have Jim enter file the papers as an Independent

On another thread the issue of cornholing has come up.
Are you fer it, or agin' it?

Maybe you could get a comment from the mayor on this.
I consider Cornhole, lawn darts for slow people.
That said I commend LCPI and Suzanne Metelko for looking at new ways to raise money for civic projects, that do not need help from city hall.
One thing I have always liked about Mayor Thomas George is his openness to try new things. The mayor and his staff of Mellisa Garrett, Mary Coleman, Pat Majeski, Tony Beno are a dream to work with.
This makes planning events very easy.
I had signed the Observers up for 6 teams in the tournament, and had signed you up as the catcher of the B team for what it is worth.

David,
That part of our platform is not yet finished. I apologize for bothering to put up an outline. BTW--Why didn't you put up the rest of the well-thought platform? I appreciate your cheapshot, it prepares me for what is to come.
Steve,
You can do better than that.

"I apologize for bothering to put up an outline." Your words not mine, Ryan. It’s not my intention to “prepare you for what’s to come.†My intention is to educate myself on the issues and on the positions of my potential elected leaders. (This is hard to do in your case.)
If you consider my critique that your economic development agenda seems a bit thin (a position on which you apparently agree) as a "cheapshot" well, then, okay. I suggest that you consider it a challenge from a truly undecided voter.
It would be great to review a complete Ryan Demro platform if one existed (hopefully before you “walk and talk†Ward 1).
Guarded, sarcastic and undecided.

You're right, of course, that we have nonpartisan elections by law. However, by fact, we all know who the Democrats and Republicans are anyway. Jim could come in late and announce his Independent party affiliation and ... and ... and.... Well, I don't know what happens after that.

That is the single biggest reason stopping me from running.
As for the parrot, why not cross breed. A parren or chickot.

Take your pick.Joe Whisman wrote:It is a good thing you are not running. You would have just lost my vote. Mayor Jim, "Joe now that I have looked into this, our study showed me, that while some players are slow, others are the best and brighest members of our community. I am sure you can understand, and certainly forgive my confusion."
Jim Jim - "Your great grandfather is rolling in his grave. Southern roots!!! Get out the horseshoes, better yet, bring the beer, I still have a set of JARTS - Lawn Darts in the box. I think Heminway said it best "Motor Racing, bull fighting, mountain climbing and JARTS are sports. Everything else is a game."

Let's be fair - Ryan does have a plan. One doesn't need to be an expert in every area - you can hire experts. (e.g., Marketing for example Steve). At least he is talking about Maketing the city. The plan is fleshed out better on his website.
Maybe he can incorporate some of Jim's creative and exciting ideas into his plan - maybe all of the candidates can. I do hope Jim participates in the debates. I think Jim's greatests strengths are 1) his positive attitude, 2) his creative and exciting ideas 3) his energy 4) his ability to listen and comprehend problems and find solutions.
I want to see the other two plans - maybe they will be posted.
Plus I would like to read more about your plans, Jim, I would love to read the white papers on the visionary alignment that I know Ken worked on and many people had input into including yourself.
