Detroit Road Resurfacing

Post by Mike Lawless »

If you live on Detroit Avenue near the West End, you're a fellow sufferer. The project to resurface Detroit Avenue had a variance approved to allow for the work...construction equipment...those lovely giant asphalt grinders and jack hammers...to do their thing ALL NIGHT LONG. I called the non-emergency police line on Monday night, when this all started, to see what was going on and was told that I MUST have been notified. Well we weren't, about the project or about any hearings for the variance. Okay, I can handle it. Not much sleep and windows closed for quiet in this heat, but it seems to me that this kind of variance needs input from the residents affected? Anybody else in this noisy boat?

I thought it was the "War of the Worlds" outside Monday nite.

Nope - I didn't know and was never informed. Didn't see any signs posted until they started (actually Tuesday morning).

I think that whoever granted the variance should have to sleep down here.

Is it just my imagination or does it seem that everything that has to do with exclusions for noise seems to happen where there are apartment buildings that house over 1,000 renters? Hmmm - renters can vote - gotta make sure they do!

Kind of tired of being treated as though I'm a second class citizen because I rent!

Jeff--- The big difference is that they're working "bankers' hours" on the Euclid Corridor (not project) repaving.

The only way you can get this thng done fast is by going 24 hour shifts. It's kinda ugly for a short period but it gets done that much quicker.

That is my fear exactly.

The Euclid Corridor Project has become a bulldozer for small businesses. Drive down Euclid, you see torn up roads with nice little business and then you see where they have finished, Cleveland Clinic, Bearings Inc, etc.

I have gotten calls from all Lakewood businesses including La Pita that is hurting bad! You can still pull right up to the front door and park on Detroit. Believe me, you can and we do not want to loose LaPita, Brinkamn, Hixson and others.

Man! I'm already eating as many shwarma sandwiches as my cardiologist will let me. They better get things straightened out quickly.

Bob says their lunch service is way down. He's single handedly trying to keep them afloat....at least that the excuse he uses....hmmm.

I was there last Friday night, and they said a huge order was called in just before I got there. Much to Jennie's dismay they were out of grape leaves!

Best falafel, shish ka bob and hummus I ever had, though. Every time I go by there I always see people in there!
