2nd Annual: Best Wings in Lakewood Contest
Get your tastebuds ready for Saturday June 16th. This year's event has been re-formatted as a "wing crawl". Yes, this competition will be travelling the circuit up and down Madison and Detroit. Competition will begin at 11 am and continue through 7 pm. Winner will be announced that evening.
Advance tickets will be sold for $15 a piece and will enable you to taste test 6 wings (2 baskets of 3 wings- buffalo/open flavor) from each participating location.
Sponsorships are being accepted if you would like to promote your business and show your support.
Proceeds from this year's event will go to the Lakewood Foundation and will be used to support our local Youth Programs.
Registration is in process to finalize the list of contestants. This competition is restricted to businesses with food permits operating in the city of Lakewood (there is currently not an amateur classification). If your establishment has not yet been contacted and you would like to be a part of this please contact the us at lakewoodjaycees@netzero.com. Nearly all of the the candidates have been contacted and only one has turned this option down (we won't mention their name yet). I anticipate a vast majority of the approximately 35 candidates will have their deep fryers bubbling on June 16th.

Great seeing this event pop up again. Everyone loved it last year and it is becoming a favorite of the city.
Make sure you submitted it to the paper as well.

yes, theoretically. In the course of 8 hours I suppose it could be accomplished. We're already looking at awards to recognize those that can manage that many wings in one day.
The response so far to this new format has been amazing. Without getting too far ahead of myself, it should realistically provide a major shot in the arm to local business for a Saturday afternoon/evening and raise some serious dollars to be turned back over to the programs that could always use a hand.
Those who have a business/service to promote are encouraged to jump in early to get the most out of the publicity. The earlier you get on board the more exposure we can provide.
Just 50 days to go.

Shawn,
Don't forget the first annual Cornhole Tournament. We'll be starting at 9:00 a.m. at the North ballfield at Lakewood Park and going until 9:00 that evening. We'll be benefitting LCPI. 2 person teams will be in a flighted competition with a cash prize. $60/team.
With the Cornhole tournament and the wing cookoff, it should be great day at Lakewood Park!

Quick update on the progress. We are just 32 days away and the contestants are being finalized. As a reminder, this year's event will be a traveling tour of participating locations. Since wings can weigh heavy on a belly and there is an issue of driving, we have recruited the support of Lolly the Trolley (2) and the Johnny Malloy's mini bus to help you get from stop to stop.
Cost again is $15 for advance tickets and can be purchased online at http://www.lakewood-jaycees.com. Additional tickets will be available at each location shortly.
This year's contestants as of today;
Buckeye Pub and Brewery
Kenilworth
Harry Buffalo
Carlucci's
Geppetto's
Lakewood Village
Pug Mahone's
Around the Corner
MaJo's
McCarthy's
Crazy Rita's
Sullivan's
Merry Arts
Contestants will be finalized this week and sponsorships are being accepted through Friday. Late sponsors will be accepted and added to future runs of marketing materials when possible.
