4th of July Festivities

Post by Jill Timieski »

A reminder to all about the parade & picnic on Tuesday:

THE PARADE:

The parade starts at 10:00 a.m. We need to get there at 9:30 a.m. We will line up near Webb & Edgewater and be near the end of the parade. The cars must get there by 9:30.

THE PICNIC:

Where: Our spot is in the south east corner of Lakewood park. We tend to gather at the end of the parade in this location. So, when you are done walking, driving or biking follow the others to find the spot. We will have cold water there.

When: officially 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. We figure people will want to go home to get their food, but we will have tables and canopies set up and you can stay right after the parade.

What: in the spirit of community togetherness, please bring a dish to share. Also you may want to bring something for your family for the grill. We will have a couple of them set up. Don’t forget the buns and the condiments. Please bring your own drinks as well. The Lakewood Observer will provide watermelon, dessert, paper goods and eating utensils.

Also to bring: CHAIRS! Blankets, coolers, games, towels & swimsuits, skateboard…but please don’t bring your dog, as they are not allowed in the park.

WANT TO HELP?

We still need coolers to keep the water cold for the end of the parade. We will need these early (day before?). Please post a note if you can spare one. Help setting up early morning (before the parade) and tearing down at night would also be appreciated.

That’s the scoop! Come on out. March and eat. Enjoy some good times and good company. Celebrate the Lakewood Observer’s birthday as well as our nation’s.

All

This will be the Lakewood Observer's second year in this parade, and the third for The Lakewood Motoring Society. Those who joined us last year I know will be back. It is a great way to kick off the Fourth of July. If you have never been in a parade, you must jump in. Surreal does not do it justice.

The place we have set aside for the picnic. enjoys shade trees. a great view, easy in and out from the park and lots of good friendly people, refreshments, treats, hot rods, sports cars, scooters, motorcycles and good neighbors.

What a great way to celebrate the 4th. I know we are going to get some interesting people stopping by to say hello and observer.

If we can get the backhoe Monday night, we will dig the pit for the pig-roast Luau just right of the entrance to the park. But just in case you might want to bring something else.

Thanks to everyone for a great year, let's kick year two off with a bang!

Jill and Ruthie thanks so much for your effort on this.

peace, happy 4th and do not blow any fingers off!

Yes, I'll second that Jim. This is my 4th year participating in this parade in some form. "Surreal does not do it justice." It is great though and what a great way to feel like a part of the community. There is such a positive vibe from the crowd. Very energizing.

Oh, and thanks for the kudos. Ruthie and I will try our hardest to put on a nice picnic.

Should be real Americana.

I have gotten email from politicans, businesses and rable rousers about stopping by and saying hello to Observers. Nothing better on the 4th.
