We were just in Annapolis and it was gorgeous. Everywhere we went were beautiful hanging flower baskets. - Even the back alleys had flower baskets hanging. Does anyone know if we are going to try again? We spent the money for the hardware for the baskets.
I suggest we try hanging them a little lower this year.

Check out the corner of McKinley and Madison.
Lakewood Massotherapy has flower boxes with gorgeous flowers. The apartment building right next to it on McKinley has beautiful roses ever year. I always try a drive home that way to see.
And new this year, across from Lakewood Massotherapy an unknown business has placed topiaries on either side of their doorway.
So nice to look at these places! :P

I think it's nice the city does this. But... maybe the money spent could be used on something more lasting and is seen. The money (flowers, labor and so on) could probably have been better spent on the below. Maybe the city has a plan for this corner? I don't know.
In Rhonda's pictures there are how many (presumably) city workers and (I see) two trucks. What did that cost I wonder.
This corner of Detroit and Sloane is a mess and it's the first look you get coming into Lakewood from across the bridge. It's been that way a long time. That curb has been busted for months. I noticed that at least someone finally emptied the overflowing garbage can that has been sitting there.

The were two city workers and it took a couple of hours. The other truck was Dean's Greenhouse that delivered the flower baskets. With two workers from Dean's assisting.
As for the picture of the area on Sloane...there is a story to that one. This spot was maintained and initially planted by the Lakewood Garden Club. It was taken care of by that group for about 6 or 7 years. It was initially planned and planted by that organization. The installation cost was over $8,000 for all the plants, labor and planning.
In planning to put in a sprinkler system, to help better maintain the park, at the expense of the garden club, the group found out that the land they thought was owned by the city was not. (they also maintain another park on Warren Road behind It's the Place to Be). This property is owned by an individual that lives in Lakewood. Any maintenance of the park should be done by the person that owns the land.
The Lakewood Garden Club no longer maintains that garden spot. The club could not contribute funds and labor to maintain private property. All their efforts are now focused on the Warren Road Park.

I have to believe city 'officials' drive by there frequently. You'd think people running for office would make noise about cleaning it up to make brownie points...

I understand your point Rhonda and agree.
However, isn't there a council person living in that area? Isn't he concerned? Is he doing something to get the city after the property owner? I don't really know and I don't necessarily expect you to know either. I'm just asking. Maybe he is aware and working on it.
I believe the city is responsible for the curb and orange cone that has been there since winter.
