Goodbye American Funland

Post by Ryan Salo »

This could be a controversial topic, but I just wanted to let people know that a fun place just outside of Lakewood is closing. American Funland was purchased by the city of Cleveland for a new road. They were threatened by eminent domain but decided to sell outright.

They have served the area well for years and I remember hours and many weekends of enjoyment there.

Gotta love new roads, kids sure will have fun playing on it with all the semi's. Go progress!!!

It was to my understanding that the city bought the Grand Stand and are taking that down but keeping the other stuff. I know an employee from there and she had said that the city gave them an offer that they couldn't refuse and she no longer had a job. This was last Sunday. If my info is incorrect please correct me.

Already closed from what I heard this past weekend.
That leaves another business opportunity for someone entrepreneurial to seize upon. Lot of softball teams in Lakewood and that was the nearest batting cage. Maybe a new use for Little links?
Word to the wise though, don't try to place the sand volleyball courts at Lakewood park. Engineering can't seem to figure out how to get 18 inches of sand to stay in one place there and the landfill underneath is just a drainage nightmare.

Are there any other baseball parks that could handle the extra volume if the city sold all the property behind drug mart? That could be an amazing location for a new park.
