Deer on Madison

Post by Danielle Masters »

This afternoon a deer was hit by a car on Madison in front of Beer Engine. The deer was badly injured and the police put the animal out of it's misery. It seems lately we've had several incidences of deer wandering into the city. Is more attention be given or is this a new phenomenon?

The deer are attracted to all the new plants residents plant in the yards.

A couple months ago I considered doing a story for the paper about Metroparks critters wandering into town.

I spoke to the animal control staff and at the time they thought that the number of incidents wasn't unusual. However, this was before today's incident and before another deer wound up on Wyandotte a couple weeks ago.

I know about a couple weeks ago a deer ran into a business window on Madison near Waterbury. Broke the window. It is boarded up now.

This may be silly questions, but ...

If we see a dear, say near Waterbury or Newman, should we call Lakewood animal control? Do they have the resources to do anything?

Thanks.

David-- You should call the Police first. If the deer is acting crazy or a danger to itself or others then call 911. Otherwise call 521.1234. The dispatcher will take it from there.
